Our Goals and Mission Statement. The Conductive Education (Southern) Charitable Trust will provide Conductive Education for children and adults with motor disorders and developmental delay who live in the South Canterbury, Otago and Southland region. If you give a hungry man fish, then he will feed himself today, but if you teach him. How to fish then he will feed himself and his family always. Our aim is not to teach functions and muscle movements but to educate how to live.

The programme is led by two Conductors who work alongside parents and their children during class times. The programme is carried out in a group situation with all of our children and adults working towards the same achievement but within their own capabilities. The way in which the task is carried out could be quite different. The children and adults are primarily motivated to work by wanting to keep up with their peers and by wanting to meet their own needs, less so by the expectation of the adults.

Conductive Education was developed by a Hungarian physician Professor Andras Peto (1893-1967). Andras Peto (1893-1967) was a practitioner of physical rehabilitation whose work provided the foundation for conductive education. His father was confined to life in a wheelchair because of Parkinson's disease; his outlook on life was probably influenced more by his mother who dictated a very structured life.
