Circulating Library

Live-blogging Doctor Who Season Seven: "The Angels Take Manhattan". Posted 1993 days ago in Doctor Who. What, you want a longer synopsis? Well, all right, then. We open with a noir prologue, in which private detective Sam Garner, hired by crime boss Mr Grayle, heads to Winter Quay to investigate rumours of “moving statues”. Instead, he finds his own aged, dying self, is chased onto the roof by weeping angels, and turns to find himself faced by the leering face of Lady Liberty. Where did you get this book?

The Random Chaos of Renovations. Posted 7 May 2012 in Life, the Universe, and Everything. This week, the hallway and main bedroom are slated for painting. This leads to a complex game of Tetris (or, perhaps, Jenga), since the contents of the spare room and the study are still clogging the living room, after last week’s painting. So, rather than move all that material back and then move the hallway and main bedroom ephemera into the living room, we’ve just shuffled. All is chaos and strange juxtapositions.

Either way, there they all in New York, with the Doctor reading a modern reprint of a ’30s pulp novel about ‘Melody Malone’, which he picked up because he liked the busty woman on the cover. Circulating Library: Film

Posted 13 September 2011 in Film. 8230; just turned up on my doorstep, and it’s making a bad day (Nick’s off for some frightening medical tests this morning, while I’ll be invigilating an exam) that much brighter. A few weeks ago, I came across Kathleen Jennings’s blog and, particularly, her Dalek Game. Where she replaces a word in a famous book title with the word “Dalek” and then draws a delightful pen-and-ink sketch of the result. Has to be Wuthering Daleks. It’s right here. And it’s magnificent.

The Spiralling Shape: The river ran through us

http://spirallingshape.blogspot.com/2013/02/the-river-ran-through-us.html

Friday, February 1, 2013. The river ran through us. Labels: living in the regions. I have been thinking of you and I saw Bundaberg on the ABC news tonight with the poor people being messed about by the authorities: right hand/left hand- neither knows what the other is doing. I am glad your house was not flooded and it is pretty normal to have survivor guilt. We saw the same thing with the houses miraculously spared by the recent fires. Adversity certainly brings out the best in us. I choose not to run.

Saturday, September 29, 2012. The 39th Birthday Skirt. What did you do this year on your birthday? I'm betting you didn't wake up and think: "I know! It's been almost 20 years since I sewed anything. I think I'll make myself a skirt! Elastic waist, no zip, various lengths. The lady on the packet looks happy so how hard could making the skirt possibly be? Then after much deliberating I decided on a dark patterned material (in case I made a dreadful hash of it), bought some thread and took it all home.

Saturday, July 21, 2012. Living in the regions; trivia blogging. Sunday, July 15, 2012. Yes we all wear glasses. Yes we all wear glasses. We're nerds. My only disappointment was the gigantic crowd at the merchandise counter which meant we could not get anywhere near anything. That, and the delight of the hopelessly huge traffic jam that greeted us on the way out as well. Driving in Brisbane is less than lovely. Anyway, here's one of my favourite songs that they didn't play. Enjoy. Tuesday, July 3, 2012.
