Tutorial: Getting started with Elm. Everyone knows that writing concurrent systems is difficult. The trouble is that nearly all programs are accidentally concurrent! Sure, you do not use locks or semaphores. But are you are using the event loop in JavaScript? Are you mutating any local state? Do you use objects? Do you have dynamic event streams? Tutorial: Getting started with Elm. No previous knowledge of Elm is required. Back to conference page.

Was ease of writing correct programs and debugging incorrect ones important to the market segment (ecological niche) at which your language was aimed? Which particular features of your language met this goal, or tried and failed? For what features was correctness sacrificed in the pursuit of alternative goals eg. compactness, familiarity, compatibility, efficiency, etc? In the light of hindsight, what would you have done differently, and why or why not? Back to conference page.

CodeMeshIO 2014 was such a great conf! Amazing agenda, high quality conversations See you next year! On most conferences, I enjoy two, max three speakers. On this conference, no talk was average.". Great - "my head explodes", have to learn more.". I only attended one talk that I wished I hadn't. That's amazing, given the number of talks and topics covered. Really high quality of speakers on average.". Loved almost all talks. Great atmosphere, keynotes and people.". THANK YOU all for an amazing conference!

Adventures with Concurrent Programming in Java: A Quest for Predictable Latency. Adventures with Concurrent Programming in Java: A Quest for Predictable Latency. We will cover some fundamental theory of concurrency and then compare various approaches to the same problem so that we can measure the impact on throughput and latency. We'll also show how some of these algorithm implementations get way more interesting given the new features in Java 8. Prior to LMAX Martin worked for Betfair, three different c...

Keynote: Grace Murray Hopper: The Original Pirate Hacker. Keynote: Grace Murray Hopper: The Original Pirate Hacker. Navy Rear Admiral and Computer Pioneer Grace Murray Hopper was a force of nature to be sure and had a series of firsts; from the first compiler to the first patch to the first computer bug - Grace made things happen. But did you know how she pulled all nighters, hacked apart sanctioned programs to get them to behave how she wanted, and pirated computer time from the pentagon?

Sunday, October 5, 2014. Advice on going to your first conference. I was asked for advice from someone going to his first conference … in this case CodeMesh. In London. Here are my thoughts … any comments or other advice? 8230; what are you aiming to find out from the conference: some very general impressions about what is going on with functional innovation, something focussed on a particular language or languages, or on particular technologies? Depending on this is …. Another way of choosing. 8230; you...

This opening keynote addressed why learning a language like Scala can be hard, and how we can all make it better. Scala is a scalable language. It is scalable in the computer sense, of small programs building into large programs. Does it scale in our mind, as well? There are a lot of ideas expressed in Scala. How do we scale those ideas from conception into full use? 10 December, 2015 at Scala eXchange, London. Elixir Should Take Over the World. Slides and narration are documented in this PDF. What I wan...

Codemesh Conference - Day 1. Written by Antony D'Andrea. Today I went to the Codemesh conference. It is their third year running but this is the first year that I have been. This conference is all about using the right tool for the job . It is not about particular language or tool but more about how we can solve problems. To sum up day 1, I have decided to tell you the 5 things that I took away from this conference. 1) F# is awesome. 2) Type-directed development is also awesome. Type driven design is abo...

Friday, June 17, 2011. Httpasync.client v0.3.0. V030 intorduces few changes. Clojure 1.2.1 support. Async-http-client v1.6.3. As it turned out, having implicit client management and default client started by itself, was not the smartest thing to do. Since I have very little respect. For code that is wrong, I've changed it. Now client has to be managed explicitly, meaning you have to create and close it yourself. All methods that issue requests now expect client as first argument. Thursday, March 31, 2011.
