Compilers 101: It's Over!

http://compilers101.blogspot.com/2007/04/its-over.html

A blog about the CS 444 experience at the University of Waterloo. Thursday, April 05, 2007. Ugh, what a term this has been. This compiler project has not been the most joyful experience for sure, but its had its moments. Particularly great was the end where things started working and coming together, feature after feature being added. Its only made me realize that you can just keep going on a project like this. It really is a full time job to work on a compiler. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Compilers 101: You Don't Have To Go Home But You Can't Stay Here

http://compilers101.blogspot.com/2007/04/you-dont-have-to-go-home-but-you-cant.html

A blog about the CS 444 experience at the University of Waterloo. Sunday, April 01, 2007. You Don't Have To Go Home But You Can't Stay Here. Am I supposed to capitalize all those words? So we're at the end of our compiler. What has happened? Our compiler has changed a fair amount. Our parser now generates code. During the parsing phase, every time we perform a shift on that rule, we execute the function. Each function then performs an actions that would create an abstract syntax tree. I think we made a r...

Compilers 101: Irreducible Complexity

http://compilers101.blogspot.com/2007/03/irreducible-complexity.html

A blog about the CS 444 experience at the University of Waterloo. Tuesday, March 06, 2007. Ian has spent some time on the grammar thus far. I'm not sure as to what the status of it is but its been grueling dealing with it apparently. We have had some great issues in dealing with the symbol table, the parse tree, and panic-mode error recovery. Draft post, releasing two years later). Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Robert - The Unsigned Boolean. Ian - Undeclared Variable. Create a JavaScript ToDo List.

Compilers 101: Amateur-Ductivity

http://compilers101.blogspot.com/2007/03/amateur-ductivity.html

A blog about the CS 444 experience at the University of Waterloo. Saturday, March 03, 2007. I have been totally destroyed because of Snow Day. Thanks to the MS interviews during reading week I am now behind in both Programming Languages and my Compiler. Snow Day has now pushed my midterm and assignment into one fatal week. Monday - Crypto Assignment. Tuesday - Compilers Assignment. Wednesday - Programming Languages Assignment Crypto Midterm. Thursday - Programming Languages Midterm. Ian ran a function I ...

Rolling Tumbleweed: May 2007

http://ianwjhalliday.blogspot.com/2007_05_01_archive.html

Geekdom, computers, math, atheism, philosophy, random card. Thursday, May 31. However, after talking with both teams' developer managers, and pondering it, I'm gonna go with C#. I'm going to be one of the few people in the world directly creating a new and brilliant (java ripoff of a) language. Well, okay, its already established and on to version 3.0 by the end of this year, but I'll be there for the next version if not longer. So I'm moving to the Seattle area! Sunday, May 6. So what's been happening?

Rolling Tumbleweed: January 2007

http://ianwjhalliday.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html

Geekdom, computers, math, atheism, philosophy, random card. Monday, January 1. 2007 getting closer and closer to 2010, and worse, 2013 (when I turn 30! This holiday break has been up and down for me. Great distractions seeing friends and playing with technology (lots of tech toys this Christmas), but I've also been unable to stop thinking about Janet pretty much all the time. I think about her when I go to bed, when I wake up as I lie there for hours unable to get up, when I'm bored.

Rolling Tumbleweed: February 2007

http://ianwjhalliday.blogspot.com/2007_02_01_archive.html

Geekdom, computers, math, atheism, philosophy, random card. Wednesday, February 7. It's 6 am. I've been working on an assignment (from start) since 8 pm or so and I'm almost done one of the 5 parts. Its probably the biggest part, but still, holy crap. It's due at 9:30 am. I'm probably going to need an extension. I shouldn't be writing this right now either. Back to work! Tuesday, February 6. Geekdom, computers, math, atheism, philosophy, random card. Wednesday, November 29. I Will Miss You. Janet, you were my closest friend. We didn't talk too frequently, but we didn't have to. Now I'm wishing we had seen each other more often anyway, but it's too late. I will miss you dearly and always. Rest in peace, Janet Yip (February 12, 1983 - November 29, 2006). Thursday, November 23. Recently released Photo Go. Very cool. You can even download a demo. From the website if you'd care to try it out.

Rolling Tumbleweed: C++ Portability Sucks

http://ianwjhalliday.blogspot.com/2007/06/c-portability-sucks.html

Geekdom, computers, math, atheism, philosophy, random card. Wednesday, June 6. C is one of the most ported languages, but writing an application across differing platforms apparently isn't so pretty. I stumbled upon this. Anyway, so that mozilla portability guide is quite a read. And the HP-UX compiler really sucks. I've got a new blog now - check it out! 1:37 AM, June 13, 2007. Geekdom, computers, math, atheism, philosophy, random card. Tuesday, October 31. One Two Three Four Five Six Seven Eight Nine Ten Eleven Twelve. Family Guy this past Sunday pulled out a classic bit from way back, that really old Sesame Street pinball counting sequence. It brought back all these memories I had locked away that I had forgotten were from Sesame Street. That show was really good, not like the stupid Barney type crap we have these days. Rolling Tumbleweed: Interlude

Geekdom, computers, math, atheism, philosophy, random card. Sunday, May 6. So what's been happening? Thats probably the only major thing I've got going on right now. School is still going strong, but its my last term, and there's lots to do and wrap up. Lots of tedious errands to attend to, like getting my grad photo, submitting plan change and intent to graduate forms, etc. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bellevue, Washington, United States. PLY is an implementation of lex and yacc parsing tools for Python. The pyparsing module is an alternative approach to creating and executing simple grammars, vs. the traditional lex/yacc approach, or the use of regular expressions. The pyparsing module provides a library of classes that client code uses to construct the grammar directly in Python code. Funcparserlib is a parser combinator library. Pgen2 is a pure Python implementation of the Python parser generator, pgen. It forms the basis for Mython.

CIS 706: Translator Design I, Spring 2015. The course will teach modern compiler techniques applied to general-purpose programming language. The goal of the course is to give students a working knowledge of the foundations, tools, and engineering approaches used in developing formal language translators. The emphasis is on the construction of compilers to position students to build translators for little languages in their careers. T U, 1:00-2:15pm, Nichols Hall, N 236.
