Collective Myth: May 2006
http://collectivemyth.blogspot.com/2006_05_01_archive.html
Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Saturday, May 27, 2006. Since I almost always have a DVD playing when I’m hanging out at the apartment, I’ve seen some of the movies on that shelf countless times. Oddly enough, one of the films that holds up viewing after viewing and that I continue to watch quite often is 40 Days and 40 Nights. That 2002 comedy in which Josh Hartnett’s character, Matt, gives up sex for lent. 40 Days and 40 Nights. He coul...

Collective Myth: July 2006
http://collectivemyth.blogspot.com/2006_07_01_archive.html
Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Saturday, July 15, 2006. Once in a while comes a film that crosses the bad-good continuum in reverse, a film so terrible that somehow it becomes good. For many, Starship Troopers. Comes to mind, but the movie I have in mind had a far lower budget and an exponentially lower profile. To a great many who have seen it, Jack Frost. Some of the readership of this blog might recall the first time I saw Jack Frost.

Collective Myth: January 2006

Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Monday, January 16, 2006. Uma Thurman in an ice fishing hut.what could be better? If I'm going to talk about "going home" movies, or high school reunion movies, it's clear that I cannot neglect Beautiful Girls. Of course, the "going home" that takes place for Timothy Hutton's character is almost wholly different from what Martin Blank experiences in Grosse Pointe Blank. Did any of you do something similar?

Collective Myth: June 2006

Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Tuesday, June 20, 2006. Hard deck my ass.we nailed that son of a bitch! If I were to list a few of the films I think to be great, I’m sure that many would shoot me an are-you-out-of-your-mind facial expression. This, of course, since I’m terribly arrogant and always right, means that these people simply don’t understand those particular films’ claims to greatness. Immediately comes to mind. In the impressio...

Collective Myth: February 2006
http://collectivemyth.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Sunday, February 26, 2006. Taking solace in, well, something. I wonder if there's something more to the solitary nature of the two aforementioned pleasures. Is there a sad comfort in being among the small population of those who can appreciate the most exquisitely constructed poetry or the most delicately subtle wines? Posted by Brian at 5:10 PM. Collective Myth: December 2005
http://collectivemyth.blogspot.com/2005_12_01_archive.html
Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Sunday, December 11, 2005. Seriously, how has cocaine come up twice already? Although it’s been a few weeks since my last post, I remember vividly where I left off. I seem to have been grudgingly admitting that I find the question of drinking in combination with various films far more fascinating than I should. But without further ado, let’s get to it: Harold and Kumar Go to White Castle. Well, I should pro...

Collective Myth: November 2005
http://collectivemyth.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
Our interaction with the things that we watch, listen to, and read does, in some sense, define us. Monday, November 21, 2005. Ah, the beer flick. Last weekend, while in Chicago visiting JJ and Megan, I had the good fortune to see Wedding Crashers. Now, I'm not talking necessarily about movies that involve a lot of drinking, though some of the ones I'll mention do, but about those during which viewers might particularly enjoy a few brewskies. Of course, The Big Lebowski. In any case, Top Gun. S classic ch...

Writing About Food, Knowing Nothing About It: March 2012
http://amateurfoodlover.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html
Writing About Food, Knowing Nothing About It. A non-foodie's encounters with cooking and dining in San Francisco, Santa Cruz, and now Oakland. Monday, March 19, 2012. Back To The City; or, Heading To Margaritaville. It had been months- literally- since I had been to San Francisco prior to Saturday. Ever since the move to Santa Cruz last October, I put out roots like a particularly sedentary house plant and stayed put. They did not disappoint. A pitcher of house margaritas was elegantly divided up by ...

marshall law: Bush v. Nature
http://davaughnci.blogspot.com/2008/06/bush-v-nature.html
It is difficult to get a man to understand something when his salary depends upon his not understanding it." upton sinclair. Wednesday, June 18, 2008. Bush v. Nature. Good one. Congress quickly said no to Bubba today, but these were just test shots on both of their parts. This whole thing about offshore drilling is just getting started and I fully expect the Dems to cave before it's all over. June 18, 2008 at 4:58:00 PM PDT. Well spoken, sir.
