Dig for Victory

Rumination and ramblings about veg and other matters, from my allotment in Northamptonshire,The County of Squires and Spires. Saturday, August 28, 2010. Who Ordered The Soup? This is my first foray into edible pumpkins, as opposed to pointless great show off ones. They are "New England Pie", supposedly a good culinary variety, and this is the crop from two plants, which germinated and grew easily, but seemed very susceptible. To powdery mildew. More so than other types growing nearby. Links to this post.

Dig for Victory: Bigger, Better, Faster.........

http://digforvictory.blogspot.com/2010/05/bigger-better-faster.html

Rumination and ramblings about veg and other matters, from my allotment in Northamptonshire,The County of Squires and Spires. Sunday, May 16, 2010. Bigger, Better, Faster. Thus was the work of the alternative rotavator. Alas the machine only penetrated about 4-6 inches,. Underneath which is still a hard, claggy. Layer that's going nowhere without a fight. It has also of course, chopped up all the root weed into a million exquisitely fine pieces. Posted by Greenmantle at 10:04 pm. Links to this post:.

Dig for Victory: If I Could Turn Back Time....

Rumination and ramblings about veg and other matters, from my allotment in Northamptonshire,The County of Squires and Spires. Sunday, May 16, 2010. If I Could Turn Back Time. The fact that Cher hasn't entirely managed it yet, despite all the surgery, does not discourage my stubborn pretence that I can cheat the clock, and that May is in fact still March. A ploy that has been made all the more convincing by the unseasonably cold weather we've been having. Hah, not so crazy now am I! Can you get FYM delive...

Dig for Victory: First Crop Of The Year.......

http://digforvictory.blogspot.com/2010/05/first-crop-of-year.html

Rumination and ramblings about veg and other matters, from my allotment in Northamptonshire,The County of Squires and Spires. Sunday, May 30, 2010. First Crop Of The Year. I don't understand all the fuss about asaparagus. Or all the waiting. I find you can crop it after just a couple of months. On arriving at the plot this morning, I was assailed by the sight of a single, huge asparagus spear, slap in the middle of the plot. A short but busy life. Posted by Greenmantle at 9:33 pm. Dig for Victory: Odd One Out....

Rumination and ramblings about veg and other matters, from my allotment in Northamptonshire,The County of Squires and Spires. Saturday, August 28, 2010. Using your skill and judgement, try to spot which one of these is actually a dinner plate. And before anyone starts, sunflowers do not count as flowers when grown on an allotment. They are garden architecture. Posted by Greenmantle at 2:48 pm. Youre right, though - they are not flowers in this context at al, they are either. Links to this post:.

Dig for Victory: Wig Wam Bam....

http://digforvictory.blogspot.com/2010/05/wig-wam-bam.html

Rumination and ramblings about veg and other matters, from my allotment in Northamptonshire,The County of Squires and Spires. Sunday, May 23, 2010. But not a facial star or a flared lurex jumpsuit. Just beans. And buckets with holes in them. I've sown my usual reliable Red Flame variety in the polytunnel, but being an impatient sort of soul, I bought a few plants at the local garden centre to be getting on with. (One man's impatience is another man's sequential sowing! Posted by Greenmantle at 5:36 pm.

Dave's Allotment: January 2006

http://davesallotment.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html

Wednesday, January 18, 2006. Other than the areas where I still have things growing, the entire plot is now dug over - and many parts of it covered and manured. This is definitely the most organised the plot has ever been. The whole plot is pictured below left, and the Broad Beans under their cover of fleece are shown on the right. Posted by Dave at 1:55 PM. Monday, November 28, 2005. This weekend I also pulled up a handfull of leeks and some more parsnips. Posted by Dave at 1:34 PM. Monday, November 21, 2005. It was a freezing morning with the frost still very much present when I arrived. The steam pouring off the manure was incredible - looked more like a bonfire than a pile of poo! Dave's Allotment: August 2006

http://davesallotment.blogspot.com/2006_08_01_archive.html

Thursday, August 31, 2006. I also bagged up a load of weeds that I had been piling up and took them to the dump. There were also a couple of bags of junk to get rid of from the new plot that the previous owners had left behind. I then pruned out the raspberry canes that had fruited this year, and they went to the dump as well. They'd grown a bit too high to properly cover them in earth, but I raked up the soil around them as best I could (see before and after above). Posted by Dave at 1:54 PM. A few week...

One Woman's Keen Green Veg Growing Regime. Sunday, 19 April 2009. The Coldframe Floweth Over, and the Kitchen Windowsill Too! Also sowed today - more pumpkins, a variety called Snowman which are very pale in colour, Sweetcorn - full size and mini, and I saved the best til last. Today was the day, the runner beans are in.or should I say. off. (I soaked them all afternoon before potting them up, so hopefully they will speed along). Looking forward to more balmy days in the garden. Posted by Gee W. Beyond t...

Diggeroo: May 2009

http://diggeroo.blogspot.com/2009_05_01_archive.html

One Woman's Keen Green Veg Growing Regime. Monday, 25 May 2009. Just maybe we're in for a good summer this year. With all the recent sunshine, everything's been springing to life. Just look at the spud planter, overflowing already. The beans are finally all planted out - I put them out in stages, half a dozen at a time. So far the later ones are looking better for being kept in the cold frame a couple of weeks longer. It was easy to put together and will easily hold four tomatoes and two cucumbers (or gh...

Diggeroo: Onion Planting and Making a New Path

http://diggeroo.blogspot.com/2009/02/onion-planting-and-making-new-path.html

One Woman's Keen Green Veg Growing Regime. Saturday, 21 February 2009. Onion Planting and Making a New Path. Spent a great afternoon in the garden today. First day this year that it's been mild enough to stay out all afternoon, so I got lots done and worked up a bit of an ache. So I had to bury it, and fast! Just for the record, I pruned back and mulched the raspberry cane before leaving the garden, and yes, I did put in a new path at the side of the pea bed. Posted by Gee W. Labels: making a path. Diggeroo: March 2010

http://diggeroo.blogspot.com/2010_03_01_archive.html

One Woman's Keen Green Veg Growing Regime. Monday, 8 March 2010. That's the Toms all Sown up. Another year has come around, along with all the hopes and wishes for a good growing season this year - the last few years have been quite a challenge on the weather front, but still have provided lots of learning opportunities, even if they have been quite tough ones at the time. Posted by Gee W. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Make a potato planter. Strawberry planter (make your own). Awkward corners of the garden.
