Down the Hatch: February 2009
http://downthehatchblog.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
With a wannabe foodie. Wednesday, February 25, 2009. These are cookies that my mom made a lot while I was growing up. This is not her recipe, but they sure taste the same. I found this one somewhere on cooks.com. They are relatively simple, and super tasty. DON'T cook them on an airbake cookie sheet. I used a plain old cheap aluminium pan and they came out perfectly. The ones on my airbake were too flat and crispy. 1 c semi-sweet chocolate chips. 1 c brown sugar, packed. 1/3 c salad oil. 1/4 tsp. salt.
Down the Hatch: Easy Ground Beef Vegetable Casserole
http://downthehatchblog.blogspot.com/2008/06/easy-ground-beef-vegetable-casserole.html
With a wannabe foodie. Thursday, September 30, 2010. Easy Ground Beef Vegetable Casserole. I found this recipe a long time ago when I was wanted to do something different with ground beef. I love tacos and hamburgers, but there must be more out there, right? I'm sure you could add other things-peas, shredded zucchini, even greens. Tonight I am going to substitute toyko turnips for the potatoes. And I might throw in some sweet peppers. We'll see how it goes. 1 to 1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef, browned.
Down the Hatch: December 2008
http://downthehatchblog.blogspot.com/2008_12_01_archive.html
With a wannabe foodie. Wednesday, December 17, 2008. I have never been a cranberry sauce fan. That gelatinous stuff that comes out of the can has never looked appealing. But this.this was really good. I know it's well past Thanksgiving, and this is technically a Thanksgiving recipe, but it was so tasty I have to write it down here. I'm thinking of using it again at Christmas. 1 cup apple cider (I used regular apple juice). 1 Braeburn or Gala apple, peeled and grated (I used Gala). Pinch of ground cloves.
Down the Hatch: July 2008
http://downthehatchblog.blogspot.com/2008_07_01_archive.html
With a wannabe foodie. Sunday, July 13, 2008. Peach Basil and Fresh Mozzarella Salad. I know, I know.it sounds really weird. But trust me-it's amazingly good. Shockingly good, really. And super simple. If you have an abundance of peaches and basil, this is the side dish for you. I doubled the recipe I found on-line, so you may want to make a smaller batch. I'd say this makes 6-8 decent sized servings. 6 ripe peaches, cut into bite size pieces. 1-2 cups basil, torn into pieces. 8 oz fresh mozzarella, cubed.

girls 2 boys 1: New School Year...
http://babydblog.blogspot.com/2013/08/new-school-year.html
Girls 2 boys 1. Wednesday, August 28, 2013. Otherwise known as "The day of great rejoicing for parents whose children were on their way to eating each other after spending too much time together over the summer." But that is too long for a title. Robbie has his first visitation day tomorrow, but sending 2 out of 3 back today felt pretty good. And thankfully, after crying daily over not wanting to go back to school, Kate happily skipped into her classroom and was warmly greeted by two good friends.

Girls 2 boys 1. Saturday, June 01, 2013. I was just about to sit down in my favorite chair to enjoy my Saturday morning coffee when I encountered this. According to my son, there is still room to sit down. And they are all in their families. And, if I don't play with the cars with him, he will be sad. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Girls 2 boys 1. Friday, November 23, 2012. Day 3 and 4 at Grandma's. Yesterday was Thanksgiving, and while we didn't stay home and watch football all day long, I only have photos on my phone from our hike, so those will have to be posted later. Right now you can see our family photos from yesterday and from our walk to the Gorge today. Tomorrow, back home. In the rain. And maybe snow. Labels: getting away from it all. Wednesday, November 21, 2012. Day 2 at Grandma and Granpa's. And this one is my favorite.

Girls 2 boys 1. Tuesday, October 30, 2012. Robbie's Big Boy Haircut. A couple weeks ago, we finally had Daddy shave Robbie's hair. It isn't totally gone.there is enough left that he isn't completely bald. But we needed it to be short enough so he would stop twirling it. He has given himself a lovely bald spot right on top of his head from all the hair twirling he's been up to lately. Here's what we started with. Here's Daddy trying to figure out how to cut a squirmy boy's hair. Labels: all grown up.

Girls 2 boys 1. Wednesday, August 22, 2012. First Day of School 2012-Day 1. Three new grade levels in our house-4th, 1st and preschool. I qualified the title of this post with "day 1" because today was only the first day for the girls. Robbie gets his first day tomorrow. And it won't be his real. When I asked Kate how school was, her response was, "I don't really like first grade." Great. Fingers crossed that this will not be a battle year. My guess is she is reacting to much less play, a lon...And even ...

Down the Hatch: Barely Swallowing High School. High school sucks. Especially in Berkeley. Sunday, May 18, 2003. So, I would like to say that this is a futile resistance, O Nonexistent Readers. With a wannabe foodie. Tuesday, November 16, 2010. I used a few scone recipes I found around the internet to create these little beauties. I did not put a glaze on them since they were nice and tasty plain, but there were many orange glaze recipes around that would work well on them. 2 1/2 tsp baking powder. 1/2 cup orange juice. Zest of one orange. Roll out on floured surface into a large circle. Cut into 10 wedges. Bake 375* for about 9 minutes. I've been baking everything with. 1/2 cup chopped onion.
