Ruby in the garden: August 2011
http://rubyinthegarden.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html
August 28, 2011. Take some, we've got plenty. Because of my work schedule this year, I mainly planted things and then came in months later and harvested. Dear hubby did most of the work in between. It has been a bit of a rough year in the garden because of cool temperatures in the spring followed by way too much rain. Our sandy soil usually dries out easily but it was fairly wet through the spring this year. The raspberries did quite well (and are delicious. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Ruby in the kitchen.

The Gin, And How To Stir It. Sit down. What can I get you? Giving thanks for Manhattans. Manhattans always appealed to me as a pre-turkey drink. Got together with the in-laws (Rob and Tane) and their in-laws (David and Maki) and tried out a couple variations. Rob brought along his ingredients for a Red Hook. And I brought makings for a Leaving Manhattan. 2 oz Rye (Rittenhouse 100). 05 oz Punt e Mes. 025 oz Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur. Cherry garnish (used sweet and delicious Amarena Fabbri cherries).

The Gin, And How To Stir It. Sit down. What can I get you? Once again my wife, Miranda, had the urge to spend $60 on booze to make one cocktail she had just read about… but life is to be enjoyed, right? My brother happened to stop by at just the right time (to borrow a pipe wrench) and ended up with a cocktail in the garden as well. Credit goes to Bon Appetit. And creator Eyal Raziel. 5 tablespoons rye whiskey. 3 tablespoons honey liqueur (such as Bärenjäger). 1/4 teaspoon orange bitters.

The Gin, And How To Stir It. Sit down. What can I get you? The Sazerac is a classic New Orleans drink. There are a number. About its creation and the history of the name. I’m not going to recount them here. This is a drink best served neat, in a chilled rocks or similar small glass. I prefer glasses that have curved sides. Just a personal aesthetic thing. Here’s the ingredients the way I like them:. 1/2 oz simple syrup. 3 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters. 2 dashes Angostura Bitters. Here in Oakland for his birt...

Ruby in the garden: A bouquet of asparagus?
http://rubyinthegarden.blogspot.com/2011/05/bouquet-of-asparagus.html
May 25, 2011. A bouquet of asparagus? The weather is cool, gray and not too spring-like but the garden is still coming along nicely. We are enjoying meals of our garden favorite- asparagus. This looks to me like a gift even nicer than a bouquet of flowers! I can taste the asparagus right now! May 26, 2011 at 9:48 PM. Loving your blog and those asparagus. :). June 27, 2011 at 9:30 PM. I would love that bouquet better than flowers, as well. Great to see that familiar hand holding it, too!
