Ruby in the garden

August 4, 2012. 2011 was a disappointing year for peppers here. Oh sure we enjoyed the 4 peppers we got but with over 20 plants, you can see the year wasn't a pepper success. 2012 has been spectacular. We are growing 2 varieties. We are freezing some and I get to eat peppers daily. Yum! Are a wonderful treat sauteed and topped with a hint of coarse sea salt. August 28, 2011. Take some, we've got plenty. The raspberries did quite well (and are delicious. We also have a good supply of potatoes, zucchini.

Ruby in the garden: September 2010

http://rubyinthegarden.blogspot.com/2010_09_01_archive.html

September 25, 2010. It's been a dreary, cold and rainy week. It was fun to go out and dig potatoes today and see this sunny reminder of summer still holding on. September 18, 2010. Raspberries are definitely a jewel in my garden. They are also a great example of how I have come from being a totally clueless gardener to well.I guess a slightly less clueless gardener. I still have much to learn but the successes keep me going. First raspberry attempt: Latham. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Random things I like.

Ruby in the garden: A bouquet of asparagus?

http://rubyinthegarden.blogspot.com/2011/05/bouquet-of-asparagus.html

May 25, 2011. A bouquet of asparagus? The weather is cool, gray and not too spring-like but the garden is still coming along nicely. We are enjoying meals of our garden favorite- asparagus. This looks to me like a gift even nicer than a bouquet of flowers! I can taste the asparagus right now! May 26, 2011 at 9:48 PM. Loving your blog and those asparagus. :). June 27, 2011 at 9:30 PM. I would love that bouquet better than flowers, as well. Great to see that familiar hand holding it, too!

Ruby in the garden: February 2010

http://rubyinthegarden.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html

February 27, 2010. It feels great to be back home.sort of. Even though I was in San Antonio for a conference (which was great), we found time to get out and about to enjoy the city too. I loved the restaurants. I enjoyed delicious. Meals and awesome M ojitos. Friday was the nicest day of the week. We only had time to hit the touristy type places close to the convention center but still it was a blast to walk around the city. I'm looking forward to their arrival. February 21, 2010. I'm really looking forw...

petals and thistles: Wow!

http://petalsandthistles.blogspot.com/2011/10/wow.html

Ramblings along the road of life. Saturday, October 1. That's the word that comes to mind when you go outside right now. Wow! Last night was a perfect evening for a walk at Lake Bemidji State Park. Those lights across the lake in the photo below are the football stadium where the Bemidji Lumberjacks were playing their Homecoming game- they won! We thought about going to the game but I'm glad we went for a walk instead! October 1, 2011 at 1:37 PM. Your photos are stunning! October 6, 2011 at 5:13 PM.

petals and thistles: August 2011

http://petalsandthistles.blogspot.com/2011_08_01_archive.html

Ramblings along the road of life. Monday, August 22. I think that is what our kids are yelling lately, at least to themselves. But for me it's more like SAAAAAAAADNEEEEEEESS! Letting go of your kids is one of those thistles in life that ya gotta do but gosh it is painful, mixed in with exciting, and a roller coaster of emotions for this momma. Last week Leanne passed her driver's test. Here she is- one happy girl! I made sure he had a photo of us so he doesn't forget his family :). Nevermind that he's on...

petals and thistles: April 2010

http://petalsandthistles.blogspot.com/2010_04_01_archive.html

Ramblings along the road of life. Saturday, April 17. Well, I did it. I put away my turtlenecks. I know. I know what you are thinking.it's a bit early isn't it? After all, it's only April 17th. Well, what can I say, I am a risk-taker! I still have all my scarves out, however, just in case my neck complains too much. So here's the extent of my "spring cleaning" so far. It feels good, doesn't it? And here's the bags of clothes that are going somewhere else to take up space.yah hoo! Links to this post.

Ramblings along the road of life. Thursday, February 9. Extreme Makeover Kitchen Edition. Gosh, it has been a LONG time since I posted on here. Life gets crazy I guess. I get lazy I guess. Plus, I discovered Peggle. Two to three weeks max, right? Here's the before pictures. Our new stove is in the before photo). Started out painting the ceiling in living, dining, kitchen and entry. Welcome to My Garden: Canning Tomatoes Step by Step

http://kathi-mygarden.blogspot.com/2007/09/canning-tomatoes-step-by-step.html

Welcome to My Garden. Thursday, September 06, 2007. Canning Tomatoes Step by Step. In the latest of what has become my Tomato Thursdays, I am canning diced tomatoes. To peel the tomato - dip in boiling water. Then immediately plunge in ice water. The skins should peel off very easily. Bring diced tomatoes to a boil. Sterilize jars in boiling water bath. Necessary equipment - a jar lifter and jar funnel. Boil jar lids to sterilize. Put jar lids and rims on jars. Instead of letting the filled jars cool off...

Welcome to My Garden: August 2013

http://kathi-mygarden.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Welcome to My Garden. Friday, August 23, 2013. It is so nice to be harvesting daily from my garden. This is just the veggies that I picked today - I also picked raspberries and plums and I'm about to go and pick enough apples for a crisp. Today's harvest included a few sugar snap peas - they are really done and I need to pull the plants up but since there were a few on there I picked them, pole beans - both yellow and green, tomatoes - both roma and grape, cucumbers and bell peppers. The plums are later ...

Welcome to My Garden: Apple Pie Bars

http://kathi-mygarden.blogspot.com/2013/09/apple-pie-bars.html

Welcome to My Garden. Monday, September 30, 2013. Another use for Apples! These are so good. I made these using fresh apples (since I have so many right now) but they would be equally as good made using my apple pie filling. This would be good to take to a pot luck. As usual this recipe is gluten and dairy free - just substitute regular flour and omit the xanthan gum and use real milk and butter if you prefer. This is one recipe that may have a lot of steps but it won't disappoint. In a small bowl:.

Welcome to My Garden: GFCF Apple Streusel Bread

http://kathi-mygarden.blogspot.com/2013/10/gfcf-apple-streusel-bread.html

Welcome to My Garden. Friday, October 04, 2013. GFCF Apple Streusel Bread. I made this last night - it is all gone already and my family is begging me to make it again. It reminds me of my childhood in the early 1960s when my Mom would have Coffee Klatches with the neighbor ladies. Sweet breads like this and coffee were the perfect combination while the women caught each other up on neighborhood news. If you are not gluten free - just substitute regular flour and omit the xanthan gum from the recipe.

Welcome to My Garden: March 2014

http://kathi-mygarden.blogspot.com/2014_03_01_archive.html

Welcome to My Garden. Saturday, March 29, 2014. The 2014 growing season has begun! There might still be snow outside but the kid and I were anxious to begin gardening. He is so much more helpful now than he was when he was little. His tags might be hard for some to decipher but I can read them so I'm not going to complain. Today we planted Roma tomatoes, Brussels Sprouts, Broccoli, Sweet Bell Peppers, Hot Pepper and Mini Sweet Bell Peppers. Can't wait for them to sprout! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Ruby in the Dust

Monday, March 24, 2014. How to make a kids' travel journal. We're going on a much-anticipated family holiday tomorrow. The four of us are off to South Africa to spend time with my amazing family, most of whom we haven't seen for well over 7 years. Because we'll be away for a few weeks, I wanted the boys to be able to keep a journal so they can remember everything we'll do. I created the pages in Illustrator, using the Langdon font and some free downloads (links at bottom). The boys are very proud of ...

Ruby in the kitchen

Ruby in the kitchen. Sunday, August 5, 2012. Peanut butter banana goodness. Although I try to stick mainly to "whole foods", I like to have baked goods now and then. I have found all kinds of gluten-free substitutes that I really enjoy. Unfortunately, a $6 loaf of bread isn't often in the budget. I am in search of a bread recipe as good as the high priced store bought ones. So far I haven't found the perfect one but I keep trying. I gave this recipe a try recently and it is good- Paleo Bread. Saturday, March 7, 2015. A couple weeks ago we added 12 new additions to the homestead. Chicks! I'm a total newbe to chicken keeping, but a backyard flock of chickens has been high on my new-home wishlist. I selected a dozen chickens- five Buff Orpington, five Australorp, and two Black Copper Marans. They are all female, since our city isn't crazy about roosters in city limits (which is okay, roosters don't tend to lay many eggs). Wednesday, January 21, 2015. What is your art?
