Was built in the 1880's as a "Standard English Mill" in response to a declining wooden shipbuilding industry in Windsor NS. It had a turbulent history employing at its peak 400. It closed in 2004 unable to compete with Asian countries.

In 2006 we decided to visit Cuba before Fidel Castro handed over the presidency. I packed my M6 Leica with 20 rolls of film. The moment I set foot on the streets of Cuba I was mesmerized. Here I saw a city with a teeming life in the streets, children playing and celebrating, people on their way to work, trading, artists rehearsing in a burnt out cinema.

Coal processor in Essen was part of the German Ruhr industrial complex. At the height of its productivity the Ruhr complex employed 500,000 people. When I photographed this plant in 2000, only 50,000 were still at work in this industry/region. The Zollverein facility is now a Unesco World Heritage Site.
