Five months in Cambodia: October 2011

http://www.fivemonthsincambodia.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Five months in Cambodia. Monday, October 31, 2011. In Chinese there is a cool expression: 半边天, or. This litterally means "half the sky", but it apparantly refers to a vision Mao Zedong had, that in the ideal society women should hold up half the sky. So 半边天 today refers to succesful women, often those who have important positions in the government or in companies. When I was 16 I got this book:. Refering to the Chinese expression, there is a movement called. Started by the Americans Nicholas Kristof and ...

Five months in Cambodia. Sunday, November 6, 2011. He had also spent some time in Ukraine, and there he felt that there was a lot of tension surrounding the topic of the Chernobyl disaster. The memorial building at the very calm Choeung Ek killings fields. You remove your shoes in respect to the spirits in the memorial building. (I trust that the spirits didn't see my mismatching socks as offensive.). I read a lot about the genocide that took place in Rwanda, after seing the powerful movie "Hotel Rwanda".

Breast Cancer & Beyond: A Survivor's Tale

Breast Cancer and Beyond: A Survivors Tale. Monday, November 7, 2011. Two, Infinity, and Beyond. This week I will celebrate two full years since the completion of my treatment. I am still living cancer-free. I'm healthy and PREGNANT to boot. Who knew? So, two years out of treatment and a year and a half since my last post- what have I been doing? Started a new job. Have supported my husband who is rapidly approaching his last semester of law school. Grew my hair back out (shoulder length now). This brief...

All of We

A blog about the repatriation of one Trini, and the expatriation of her family from the concrete mash up of Brooklyn to the sunbaked proud island of Trinidad. We'll share our experiences and observations along the way, and hope our blended perspectives can bring some unique (or, at least, entertaining) insights. Friday, January 2, 2009. Pepper Sauce taste off, Best and Worst. I couldn't close this blog without doing one final pepper sauce taste off, here are the absolute best and worst of all time. Our t...

Indian Walkabout

Thursday, December 07, 2006. Here I am in Mumbai, my last stop in India! The mountains and wilderness have a strange capacity to reinvigorate, to recharge ones worn batteries and to bewilder, leaving us gazing at our own relative insignificance in the face of the mighty world out there. The city has an energy of its own, but its strange how such a crowded place can also feel so lonely and foreign after spending time in some of the most remote parts of India. Posted by sajir at 8:23 PM. Tomorrow I'm off t...

Five months in Japan: bits of our family adventure

I can't believe more than one month has already passed since my last post! It's not that I don't have anything to share, but I am enjoying my free time a lot and can't find time to update this blog (which takes a lot of time). For today, I selected a few pictures to illustrate some of the traditional Japanese aspects you can find in Kyoto and around. Hope you'll enjoy it! Player of traditional koto instrument. Yabusame festival with horseback archery contest. Traditional theater in a shrine. Traditional ...

en francais, s'il vous plait: five months in paris

Wednesday, January 27, 2010. Au revoir, Paris! Tuesday, January 26, 2010. List No. 4. It is my second-to-last day in Paris and I am currently stuck sitting at my desk. Which brings me to. Things I would rather be doing right now than studying for a final exam:. 1 Ice skating outside the Hôtel de Ville. At least, I think the rink is still open - it's certainly cold enough out today. 2 Going for one last hurrah at the soldes. They only happen twice a year, after all. 4 Getting some coffee and pastries à.

Life in the Maldives | a five month adventure

Life in the Maldives. A five month adventure. September 7, 2014. The Maldives from the air. This week marks a year since we first arrived in the Maldives, and we have now been back longer than we were there. It’s past time to write this final blog of reflections on our time there. It really should have been written months ago; but returning to the old life, slipping back into the old routines as though we never left; somehow the final blog slipped off the radar. Male from the air. You can buy almost anyt...

fivemonthsinwarsaw | Welcome to my Warsaw

Welcome to my Warsaw. Thanks and farewell Warsaw. My fivemonthsinwarsaw has come to an end, and so has this blog. I want to say thanks to many people who made my stay rich and rewarding. To my daughter, who made it all possible by marrying a Polish man and producing Polish-Australian twins. She showed me what intelligent, loving imaginative mothering looks like. She also talked about her childhood and gave me a chance to remember and review. To my Australian family and friends who emailed me regularly, e...
