Flora Fauna Fortuna: Ringing In 2010. Gravlax & Oysters

http://florafaunafortuna.blogspot.com/2010/01/ringing-in-2010-gravlax-oysters.html

A personal journal about food and fortune. Sunday, January 3, 2010. Ringing In 2010. Gravlax and Oysters. It's a New Year and I have been ignoring this blog for far too long (yes, 3 years! Not too much has changed over the years, which is a good thing, since sometimes you want things to stay as they are. Frank and I rang in the year in a quiet fashion, but we went to town through our meals! And The Flavor Bible. The lineup was Malpeques. On to the Gravlax! And it was sooooo good! Flora Fauna Fortuna: April 2007

http://florafaunafortuna.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html

A personal journal about food and fortune. Monday, April 30, 2007. Frank was making me extremely jealous this weekend over his dining experiences while on his trip to Southeast Asia. We were looking at some of the photos he took while on a boat in Ha Long Bay and I started going crazy after looking at the freshness and utter deliciousness of the seafood they were eating. I started to whine and demanded we go get some crab! 4 small live crabs (about 1lb each; either blue or rock crab or your favorite).

Flora Fauna Fortuna: The Birth of the Fuzzy Devil!

http://florafaunafortuna.blogspot.com/2007/06/birth-of-fuzzy-devil.html

A personal journal about food and fortune. Sunday, June 24, 2007. The Birth of the Fuzzy Devil! Also known as: Where is the drink in this shot? Photograph this before it's all gone! It's lots of fun trying to come up with drinks! I don't know if the reason the final concoction tastes so good is because by the time you've figured out the recipe you've had 2, or 3 or 4. Yikes! 1/2 oz Elderberry Flower Syrup (this stuff came from Ikea and definitely deserves more investigation! 1/2 oz Organic Pear Juice.

Flora Fauna Fortuna: Corn Salad

http://florafaunafortuna.blogspot.com/2007/06/corn-salad.html

A personal journal about food and fortune. Thursday, June 14, 2007. So what do you do when you have a party and you make too much corn? After all the cooking from the previous day, I usually get burned out. The only problem is I start to get tired of eating the same meal over and over. I am not a big fan of leftovers. Back to the issue of too much corn:. It is perfect picnic fare. June 21, 2007 at 5:46 PM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). View my complete profile. The Birth of the Fuzzy Devil!

Flora Fauna Fortuna: Southern Fare

http://florafaunafortuna.blogspot.com/2007/06/southern-fare.html

A personal journal about food and fortune. Thursday, June 14, 2007. We celebrated Frank's birthday this last weekend. I usually like to kick off Birthdays with some kind of fun and unusual feast. For example, my last birthday, we celebrated with a champagne tasting and dishes that would compliment the different varieties. It gets to be a little time consuming and pricey, but I like doing something memorable and food events are fun! I just followed the recipe that Old Bay. And optional tequila. We ate...

The sketch blog of Scientific Dog, a design and illustration collective featuring James Yamasaki, Michele Robin Miller and Frank Svengsouk. Saturday, April 14, 2007. We make holes in teeth! I've dreamt of seeing this commercial again for years. Thanks Youtube for making sure my childhood memories are preserved for eternity (At least until you get shut down.) As a kid, I loved those Jack Kirby-esque characters and how could you deny the beauty of a city wall made up of giant teeth! Links to this post.

Cooking from Memories: Artichokes in Palermo

http://foodmemoirs.blogspot.com/2007/05/artichokes-in-palermo.html

Sunday, 13 May 2007. When I was 18 I went on a college exchange trip to Palermo. I had been paired with a Sicilian girl who was very different from myself. I was a long haired, rainbow clothed, shoeless hippy. Braised artichokes with lemon, stuffed artichokes with cheese, artichoke salad and we even ordered artichoke pizza from a local restaurant. The best meal I had there involved the whole family. Mama. Until we were all completely stuffed and quite drunk on grandfather's wine! Use artichokes that are ...

The sketch blog of Scientific Dog, a design and illustration collective featuring James Yamasaki, Michele Robin Miller and Frank Svengsouk. Thursday, December 29, 2011. My first attempt using the Wacom Inkling. Apparently, it doesn't like the way I drew the face and tried to fix it for me. Cooking from Memories: Blueberries and Beaches in Mexico

http://foodmemoirs.blogspot.com/2007/06/blueberries-and-beaches-in-mexico.html

Saturday, 2 June 2007. Blueberries and Beaches in Mexico. It also meant noone else came near me until I had jumped in the sea and washed it off but I think it was worth it! There was one restaurant we kept returning to called Babe's. It was run by a group of Swedes but the chefs were Thai so the menu was a strange mix of the two cuisines and no enchilladas in sight! 25ml blueberry schnapps (optional). 25ml fresh lime juice. Lime and blueberries to garnish. Blend till smooth and garnish with wedges of lim...

Cooking from Memories: New Season English Asparagus

http://foodmemoirs.blogspot.com/2007/05/new-season-english-asparagus.html

Thursday, 3 May 2007. New Season English Asparagus. At 17 I moved out of home into a little cottage in a place called Slack Bottom (? I now live in East Sussex myself, so am lucky enough to get what I consider to be the best asparagus in the world once again. Last week my boyfriend brought me back a bunch of the first asparagus from a farm shop outside of Lewes and so I will gorge myself on asparagus and hollandaise once more until the season ends in June. 1 bunch English asparagus. Juice of 1/2 lemon.

Cooking from Memories: April 2007

http://foodmemoirs.blogspot.com/2007_04_01_archive.html

Monday, 23 April 2007. One of my earliest food memories is making mucky mixtures with my sister Ruth. Here is our drop scone recipe (very roughly):. 2 heaped teaspoons baking powder. 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon. 1 handful or two children's handfuls of sultanas. If you are a small child (even at heart) then just put it all into a bowl and whisk till you have a smooth batter. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). The House of Dung. We gathered around with hand lenses, expensive cameras, and intent interest. After some initial documentation, the specimen was reverently placed in a basket and carried back to the main hall to be further examined and identified. Pieces were placed under microscopes, and hefty field guides were referenced. It was probably the most interesting thing brought in that day: a large pile of dung. Ascomycota is a diverse fungal phylum that includes morels and cup fungi. Still, there was a de...

Flora, Fauna, Fur and Fiber

Flora, Fauna, Fur and Fiber. Sunday, August 18, 2013. My group followed three dogs working in phase 4. Each dog is worked on a route individually and the picture below is the first dog being released from a kennel to start work. It was fascinating to watch the trainer with dog distractions as unwanted dog encounters can be the bane of my existence. Even though the dogs were a bit distracted, every dog showed improvement in dog distractions by the end of the training session. The other highlight was the R...
