It happened to me, the mistake you think only other people would be careless enough to make: I baked all my starter. Fortunately, I still had some dried starter from about a year ago tucked away in the freezer. We’ll see if this has some life in it yet. This entry was posted in Uncategorized. My house is warmed. This has nothing to do with the Gabriel García Márquez classic. (Who knows, though? I only got a few pages in; perhaps bread has a starring role further in.). Some highlights I’m looking forward to:. Dutch rye, which spends 10 hours in the oven. This entry was posted in 100 loaves. Let me ...

100 Loaves of Solitude. Baking my way through 100 traditional loaves of Europe. 100 loaves by country. 100 loaves in order. My house is warmed. June 1, 2014. I had a belated housewarming for my new place last night. My North London friends came down to distant south-east St Johns, which was really touching. Here’s what I cooked:. Chorizo in red wine. With the wine switched for cider. An Italian dish made of baked gram flour. Chickpea and cashew tagine from The Food For Thought Cookbook 1987 ( similar.

100 Loaves of Solitude. Baking my way through 100 traditional loaves of Europe. 100 loaves by country. 100 loaves in order. Bread 34: Socca from Nice. April 3, 2015. Nice seems like a strange place to come across a chickpea pancake, but it’s thought (according to, ahem, Wiki) to have originated with Italy’s farinata, which then spread across the coast of the Ligurian Sea. This variety of the chickpea-and-olive oil combination is local to Provence. And they had that delicious crispiness that you usually o...

Chuck's Miscellany: February 2015
http://chucksmiscellany.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Saturday, February 21, 2015. R and I are running away to America. For five weeks at least. If you have any recommendations for the west coast do hit me up at chucksmiscellany@gmail.com. Otherwise, I suppose, I will catch you on the flipside (where I will continue to nail youth slang and will also be very fat from the enormous amount of delicious food I have consumed). California inspiration c/o Ansel Adams. Sunday, February 15, 2015. Issue 24: Nests and Homes. Issue 24 of Oh Comely. I love my bedroom(s).

Things I bake and things I make. A trip to Riversdale. Posted by karen brown. Asymp; 1 Comment. I have never been to Riversdale before, which is surprising considering that it is only a couple of hours from Wellington. So when a dear friend invited me to spend the night at her Riversdale bach (that’s Kiwi for a simple beach or holiday house), I jumped into the car and headed over the hills. The new kitchen has laminate cupboard fronts that evoke the 60’s with their slanting fronts and chrome pull k...
Flour & Hops | A beer tasting, baking, mess making blog!
A beer tasting, baking, mess making blog! The summer is almost at an end – I’m setting my alarm tonight for the first time in about a week. Tomorrow is the beginning of pre-year meetings and planning sessions even though the kids don’t come back for another week and a half. I’m not quite ready. Even though I didn’t participate in many of the official events, I did a lot of unofficial tastings at home. Although the cap was pretty awesome…. Welsh Rarebit with a brown ale, and finally an IPA BBQ sauce.

Stay A While. Be Inspired. Why It’s Rude To Ask “Are You Pregnant? I don’t make it a habit of publicly venting about things, but this question is starting to get under my skin. I apologize if this post comes off a bit harsh and negative. Tom and I got married (yay! I’ve never asked someone are you pregnant? And I try not to insinuate the possibility to couples. My reasoning is simple and considers the situation of others’, not just my own. BEFORE ASKING ARE YOU PREGNANT CONSIDER THESE THINGS. If you’re a...
