Flourishing Palms

Wednesday, March 28, 2018. When we travel to/from Kansas City, which is about 18 hours each way, I always take along handwork. In between helping navigating around traffic slowdowns in Atlanta, Chattanooga, and Nashville, handwork is what occupies my hands and makes me feel productive. 😀😩 I was so upset with myself, and horrified at the thought of having nothing to do all the way home! The first thing I worked on last weekend was a mini quilt - my entry in Curated Quilts. If you voted for my "Tiffany L...

Flourishing Palms: Dog Days of Summer

http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2015/07/dog-days-of-summer.html

Thursday, July 30, 2015. Dog Days of Summer. Company's gone. No other visitors are expected. Hogan has reclaimed the guest room as his personal "office." We're thoroughly into the dog days of summer. Every day it rains. Every day it's hot. In fact, at 82 degrees and 93 percent humidity, this is what happened to my Canon PowerShot when I stepped outside to take a picture. It fogged over! Be about halfway finished. I just hope this spool of pale yellow Aurifil #2123 holds out until I'm done. I dont envy yo...

Flourishing Palms: Flourishing Palms

http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/p/flourishing-palms.html

I learned to quilt in 1976, and have been quiltmaking steadily since the mid-1980's. I began blogging about quilting in January, 2009. After living in West Des Moines, Iowa for nearly 23 years, in June 2012 I moved to Florida. Though palm trees don't grow in Iowa, I have always appreciated the beauty of palms. How ironic that I would eventually come to live in a place where palm trees flourish! And did you know? Most significantly, palm fronds look like open hands! A large Bismarck palm (see my blog head...

Flourishing Palms: Bottle Cap Pin Cushion Ring Tutorial

http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2009/08/bottle-cap-pin-cushion-ring-tutorial.html

Wednesday, August 12, 2009. Bottle Cap Pin Cushion Ring Tutorial. This is a great pin cushion to own and use! It’s little, making it perfectly portable for hand projects. And because it has a firm base, when wearing it, you can’t accidently poke a pin through to your skin. A tutorial follows below, or click here to go to another website where you can print the five-page PDF. Hands and pin cushion rings shown below belong to my best quilting buds, the Batting Buds. Try on the ring to size it. Don&#821...

Flourishing Palms: Ten in '10

http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2009/12/ten-in-10.html

Monday, December 28, 2009. My 2010 resolution is to make or complete a total of ten quilt projects. That's ten projects during 2010. About the "Ten in '10" Resolution. I confess to such behavior. Since it's time again to make New Year's resolutions, and since I'm motivated to keep myself accountable about my ever-growing UFO (unfinished objects) list, I thought it would be good to publicly declare my intentions to make and/or finish ten projects during 2010. You're invited to join me. A bag, tote, or acc...

Flourishing Palms: Doin's and Random Stuff

http://flourishingpalms.blogspot.com/2015/05/doins-and-random-stuff.html

Friday, May 15, 2015. Doin's and Random Stuff. Though I'm finally at home for a while - the four-day Central Florida MQG/Gainesville MQG Mod Retreat. Was last weekend - I find I'm not spending much time at home. This week was:. Monday evening's Central Florida MQG. Tuesday's weekly Big Cypress quilters meeting. Wednesday's weekly Happy Stitchers group. Next week I will teach "No Tails Binding" again, twice, making it six times I've taught the class since March 8! One of my favorite companies, MassDrop, i...

Possibilities: Believe It or Not

Pursuing the "homemade life" with my husband on a small farm smack dab in the middle of Tennessee's Cumberland Plateau. And my people shall dwell in a peaceable habitation, and in sure dwellings, and in quiet resting places." Isaiah 32:18. Monday, May 11, 2015. Believe It or Not. MickMade Pet Wear: June 2011

http://mickmadepetwear.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Friday, June 17, 2011. What is a Belly Band? A belly band is used for "potty training" your dog, or prevent a dog from "marking" its territory when you're away from home. Belly bands are available in multiple sizes, depending on the size of your dog, with hook and loop closure for easy on and off. Machine-washable, these belly bands are made from easy-care fabrics - cotton and flannel - they will hold up to years of wear. For added effectiveness, a feminine panty liner can be inserted for disposable use.

Selvaging My Sanity- Selvage Projects. Quilting with No Apologies. Thursday, June 19, 2014. Really Random Thursday, 6/19/14. Does the place where you live have trash pick-up where you can set out things that have been collecting all year because they are too big for regular pick-up? We have that once a year. Just put all your tree trimmings/junk in the gutter and the city will pick it up. I had seen a mug like this somewhere.Instagram, Pinterest? Was sure she would really like it. These inspire me to mak...

Where in the World? Saturday, November 12, 2011. SM Number 25 is a Wrap. The last Stitchin' Mission lesson was at Faith Lutheran Church. Photo thanks to Jim Ridge. Sadly, at least four quilters who made quilts are missing from our group picture. I'm sorry we don't have a picture of that quilt.

Becoming a registered charity is a big milestone for us and I’m delighted that two funding applications have been submitted, this wouldn’t have been achieved in such a short space of time without your assistance.
