I recently retired from full time education after a career covering every age group and key stage since 1979, here in England and abroad. During that time I was lucky enough to work in Holland where I was the director of an international nursery school catering for 66 children of many nationalities. I planned the layout of the facility; designed the curriculum based on English early years best practice; appointed members of staff and dealt with all budget and daily business matters.

To start we had frisches bauernbrot, a dense German bread served with cheese, gherkin and dripping (yes, lard! Once you get over the fat-factor, this is actually quite nice, similar to butter but with more flavour. Irene went for the Flammkuchen, a German style pizza, this one topped with sausage and cheese.
