Footless Crow: June 2015
http://footlesscrow.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
A collection of the best of UK mountain, art and environmental articles. Friday, 26 June 2015. Hamish MacInnes: The Sage of Glencoe. Photo: John Cleare Collection. I am not a pessimist, but I couldn’t help wondering if I was wasting my time as I packed crampons, ice-axe, head torch, gaiters, climbing helmet and other gear. For the rain was battering on my window, and the weather forecast promised nothing better in the next 24 hours. Whatever the truth, I hope he had a change of clothes waiting for him, f...

It is important, however, that the locations of the rarer plants should not be revealed for depredation is an increasing menace, and climbers and walkers should never dig out specimens and should restrict their picking. Footless Crow: July 2015
http://footlesscrow.blogspot.com/2015_07_01_archive.html
A collection of the best of UK mountain, art and environmental articles. Friday, 31 July 2015. Seven days on the Eigerwand. Gingerly I got the picks of my axe and hammer into the ice band above — feeling the rock beneath them. I pulled up and cramponed onto the slab. My foot slipped. The axe and hammer held. I placed the crampon on the rock again — and again it slipped — and as I fell off balance the hammer started to twist from the ice. Steepening ground below the difficult crack. Footless Crow: Alfred Wainwright: Fool on the Hill?
http://footlesscrow.blogspot.com/2011/11/alfred-wainwright-fool-on-hill.html
A collection of the best of UK mountain, art and environmental articles. Thursday, 10 November 2011. Alfred Wainwright: Fool on the Hill? It is twenty years since 'the greatest fellwalker', AW Wainwright was cast to the fell winds atop Haystacks above Buttermere. In the intervening years, the iconic image of the avuncular, flat capped, bluff Lancastrian with a smouldering pipe firmly fixed in a jowly jaw, has remained constantly in the public eye. Not surprisingly though when dealing with iconic cultural...
Footless Crow: Clean Climbing
http://footlesscrow.blogspot.com/2015/05/clean-climbing.html
A collection of the best of UK mountain, art and environmental articles. Friday, 15 May 2015. Pete Livesey circa mid seventies.Photo John Cleare. Ten years ago I gazed in awe at one of Britain's tigers at work on Malham Cove's Right Wing Girdle. In later years, when news of the doings of Brown and Whillans had filtered through to the climbing world in general — perhaps three or four years after the events — people realised that aid had been used on many routes. But Joe and Don were the be...Would be XS A...

Nick Livesey Mountain Images. November 14, 2011. Another day with the doctor. Oh well, what did I expect? As the sun disappeared behind the cloud bank we scooted off over Hart Crag, slipping as we went on greasy boulders. On Dove crag we picked up the wall that becomes your companion on the southern arm of the horseshoe and serves as a useful guide in mist, or, as it happens, failing light! Lakeland’s boring giant. Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond...: The Ice cream Sunday
http://www.timeticks.co.uk/2015/02/the-ice-cream-sunday.html
Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond. Rambling on about rocks and such like. The Ice cream Sunday. Below the scone is a boulder I helped clean a few weeks ago,. It has dried out, most of the moss is gone and as far as I can tell it is un-recorded and judging by the state of the rock unclimbed there was plenty of scrittle and no sign of wear. If they were all done years ago, so be it but it kept us amused for an hour, thanks for coming gents I had a ball. Posted by Dave Prince. Otley Mini Mountain Festival.

Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond. Rambling on about rocks and such like. Forgotten Flasby, Hellboy's Arse. I think Bryn was going to blog this one - the trip was his suggestion, and felt like his day to stretch the legs of his penmanship (you know what I mean) - but the lack of blog to this point and the fact that Bryn currently has bigger fish (mountains) to fry (slide down) means I'm hopeful that he won't mind me taking up the mantle. I'll try to do his standard justice. I can't even remember.) N...
Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond...: Palleys Crag
http://www.timeticks.co.uk/2015/05/palleys-crag.html
Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond. Rambling on about rocks and such like. 4 pm I'm leaving the madness of central Leeds on my bike, pedalling away from all that humanity and towards the trees and the green. I pull on a few of the sit start roof/wall problems, they are lovely, pockets and slots to rounded tops. The big throw number beats me at the mantel and press move, I cheat a reachy finish on the left but I know it will not do and now you know. A mini adventure, a city break. How lucky am I? Fresh of...
Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond...: Boulder Britain - Grimer's Fairytale
http://www.timeticks.co.uk/2011/12/boulder-britain-grimers-fairytale.html
Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond. Rambling on about rocks and such like. Boulder Britain - Grimer's Fairytale. Fresh off Santa's Sleigh comes the much needed Boulder Britain. By the sometimes outspoken Niall Grimes. I was worried this book would be about Grimer's ego as some of his writing has been and his Somewhat novel approach to international relations. Worried me yet further. That style got him noticed, more recently he is known for his guidebook work. Did for trad climbing way back when. Dave has...
Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond...: Ours and hours
http://www.timeticks.co.uk/2015/01/ours-and-hours.html
Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond. Rambling on about rocks and such like. And you shall have a rock garden. I hadn't really noticed, it just crept up on me. I was doing less and less at Caley below the track as the problems were reclaimed by the forest. Those fillers in, the easy ones you knock off on your way to to the classics or your projects, were going feral all moss, and loss. What should be the best lower grade circuit in Yorkshire was becoming somewhere with more walking than climbing. Dave has ...
Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond...: What the Fock?
http://www.timeticks.co.uk/2015/03/what-fock.html
Time Ticks - Bouldering and beyond. Rambling on about rocks and such like. When is a rock not a rock? A slabby central descent route for some more technical ascents either side. Looking across the A1 towards Gateshead. Bryn has been climbing for a good few years and he is lucky enough to live within walking distance of Almscliff.
