A Forager's Treasury

Goodies and extras to go with the book. Tuesday, February 25, 2014. I’ve noticed that pūhā loves to grow in our ramshackle little hothouse. Last year, a single huge, lush pūhā plant grew in there. It reached about a metre and a half tall – as big as any I’d seen – then kept on growing until its stalk collapsed under its own weight. This year dozens of little pūhā plants have popped up. They seem healthy and vigorous. Wednesday, September 11, 2013. Anna also sells seeds for the coolest popcorn ever. Now t...

A Forager's Treasury: Spring windfalls

http://www.foragerstreasury.blogspot.com/2013/09/spring-windfalls.html

Goodies and extras to go with the book. Wednesday, September 11, 2013. The wind's roaring so loud, if I shut my eyes I feel like I'm at sea. I hope everyone reading this comes through these gales unscathed. Occasionally the wind blows something useful down. Like this eucalyptus tree branch - I've been wishing for ages I could reach some of the leaves from this particular neighbourhood tree to try dyeing with. Maybe it will blow these mandarins down from their unreachable heights too. Stay safe, everyone.

A Forager's Treasury: August 2013

http://www.foragerstreasury.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Goodies and extras to go with the book. Monday, August 26, 2013. Student innovation: a foraging app. Several months ago I met Hannah Faesenkloet, Oliver Evill, Joe Milsom, and Marcelo Hudson from Victoria University, an enthusiastic team dedicatedly working on a foraging app for an urban conservation project. Their project has come to fruition. Such a brilliant idea, and see their excellent promotion here: https:/ vimeo.com/69292736. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Visit A Forager's Treasury on Facebook.

A Forager's Treasury: Citrus, chocolate and ... more chocolate

http://www.foragerstreasury.blogspot.com/2013/05/citrus-chocolate-and-more-chocolate.html

Goodies and extras to go with the book. Tuesday, May 28, 2013. Citrus, chocolate and . more chocolate. Citrus fruits are beginning to ripen, but you can use the richly aromatic leaves for flavouring all year round - in both savoury and sweet dishes. You can make delicate leaf-shaped chocolates by picking the fresh, young leaves of any citrus tree, coating them with chocolate, leaving them to set, then peeling away the leaf. You even get a decorative veining effect. Tuesday, February 11, 2014 at 2:12:00 P...

Loved ones and their recipes remembered. Sunday, February 19, 2012. Bec's blog: http:/ bornagain-creations.blogspot.com.au/. Bec's Facebook page: https:/ www.facebook.com/pages/Born-Again-Creations/121505087928245. 12th May 1916 - 1st January 2010. We haven't had much bran in the kitchen in the last few gluten free years. I hadn't really given this recipe any thought until one day last week I decided that one of Nana's muffins was long overdue so I added BRAN to my shopping list. 1 oz / 30g butter. Melt ...

Loved ones and their recipes remembered. Sunday, February 26, 2012. Brandy and Chocolate Ice-cream. From Nicki and Emma Levy). This delectable ice-cream was a favourite of our mum's, and is SO creamy and delicious. No, we weren't brandy drinkers as children, but we loved this! It is REALLY easy to make and always impressed dinner party guests. Enjoy! 1 Beat egg whites stiffly. 2 Add sugar and beat well. 3 Add whipped cream. Stir lightly. 4 Divide mixture into two. Do not stir or mix.

Loved ones and their recipes remembered. Sunday, April 1, 2012. Small acts of thrift. My Canadian great-grandmother used to say, ‘Look after the cents, and the dollars take care of themselves.' It was an expression of her thrifty approach to life which is still repeated in my family today . the saying that is, not necessarily, I'm sorry to say, the approach itself! In my grandmother’s old Mennonite Community Cookbook. What a neat trick for any sauce bottle when it gets to that frustrating stage where you...

Loved ones and their recipes remembered. Sunday, March 18, 2012. Mum used to make this for us and I remember Adam, Emma and I eating mountains of it. There was a period of our lives when we asked for it a lot. When I made this for my boys recently, I spent the day building it up - I was so excited about eating it that I went a little overboard. By the time it came to serve up dinner, I was almost squealing with the memory of how much we used to love this. 1 750 gm potato (cooked and mashed). Pickled Vege...

Loved ones and their recipes remembered. Sunday, January 29, 2012. Granny (Mum's mum) was born in Poland but lived her adult life in Brussels, where Mum was born, and then Sydney. I don't remember her cooking us anything. All I remember is her peeling an apple with a knife before eating it. We loved to watch one long peel come off the apple with no breaks. Mum's version of Granny's cucumber salad. 1 Slice a cucumber VERY finely. 4 Pour over the dressing:. The original dressing, from memory, was:. Mum did...

Pass it on: Not-as-good-as-last-year’s Christmas pudding

http://recipespassedon.blogspot.com/2013/12/not-as-good-as-last-years-christmas.html

Loved ones and their recipes remembered. Wednesday, December 25, 2013. Not-as-good-as-last-year’s Christmas pudding. Makes two good-sized puddings – one for your family, and one to give away. This pudding recipe has travelled down at least five generations. My great-great grandmother made it; perhaps it goes back further. How this tradition came to be, no one now knows, though I wonder if it began with my grandmother (left), who was of a very anxious disposition. 190; pound sugar. 1 ¼ pounds flour. In a ...

Loved ones and their recipes remembered. Saturday, February 8, 2014. My parents' friendship with 'Aunt Lisbet' is one of my earliest memories. She was a most remarkable person: intellectual, artistic, a little intimidating to strangers but a loving friend. She never returned to Germany, but lived the rest of her life in Mahina Bay near Eastbourne among her wide circle of friends. She was a notoriously bad cook, but we are fond of her Apfelküchen. Line a shallow pan with short pastry, bought or homemade.

Loved ones and their recipes remembered. Sunday, December 25, 2011. Aunty Jean's Christmas Pie. Owen was perhaps the loveliest person I've ever known - gentle, kind and gracious. When our daughters were little we spent a Christmas season in Montreal, and I remember Auntie. Saying she would make a "Christmas Pie" for a special lunch. We had no idea what this would be, though later I realised I had seen Auntie. Knitting unobtrusively for a while . That was typical of Auntie. Sunday, December 11, 2011.

Foragers On The Edge

Foragers On The Edge. Exploring Life Together - From and Around The Edge. Saturday, May 22, 2010. Nana and Gramps Go Foraging to Cali. Okay, we’ll admit it: we’re in grandson-withdrawal after spending five wonderful days in Oakland, California. How can you be ready to leave a loveable 21-month-old who says “boap” for “boat” and likes to be rocked to sleep? Nana especially loved that, but shhhh, don’t tell Gramps). Forager's Quest

Sunday, December 28, 2008. No matter how much he tried not to think about what had happen just now, cruelly, his mind is replaying the scene over and over again. It’s as if tormenting him brings some kind of sadistic comfort to his hurt. 8216;It’s just ridiculous’, he thought. The fact that Jenny had angrily shouted, ‘It’s over Michelle. Over! I don’t ever want to see you again! Why had he been so stupid? 8217; he thought. But…Nothing had happened. 8216;Can’t I have friends anymore? To be continued.).
