The Fowey estuary is a ria, a river valley flooded after the last Ice Age. The Estuary itself is 11kms in length and covers an area of nearly 1000 acres; it contains a diverse landscape and built and cultural heritage. The Fowey Estuary is located within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and includes a wide variety of habitats. In the lower estuary there are rocky headlands, caves and sandy beaches. Rockpool Ramble, 28/5/2014. We had an amazing turn out for our Rockpool Ramble at Readymoney Beach, Fowey. There were lots of families involved; the children were very keen to discover what they could find hiding beneath the rocks and seaweed -. They were not disappointed! We found 4 different species of crabs (which are always the main attraction), starfish, shrimps, a pipefish and some anemones including a lovely dahlia anemone, to name but a few of the things that were seen. All those who attended the Bat Walk organised by the Friends of the Fowey Estuary in Coulson’s Park on Saturday 7th September were rewarded with an evening of entertainment and education by licensed bat worker Rob Wells. Rob led the group close to the river where soon Daubentons bat were heard giving a distinctive a "machine-.
