From Seed to Scrumptious

From Seed to Scrumptious. Friday, December 1, 2017. Planting Garlic in December. I have heard a saying about planting garlic on the shortest day of the year. Well I am pretty close to being that late so I am hoping for the best. I would certainly expect a great crop of green garlic. At the bottom of the northern most tomato trellis I planted almost two dozen Russian Red garlic cloves from my last year's harvest. These were some of the largest cloves that I saved especially for next year's crop. Wow, what...

From Seed to Scrumptious: Fourth of July Tomato

http://fromseedtoscrumptious.blogspot.com/2015/06/fourth-of-july-tomato.html

From Seed to Scrumptious. Saturday, June 27, 2015. Fourth of July Tomato. How often do you get something that is better than advertised? I bought a Burbee's Fourth of July Tomato plant this spring. I thought I would try one plant as August first or later is often my start of the tomato season. Well when I checked on the progress of the plant last week, I was shocked and pleased to see a tomato ripening! First Tomato picked June 26, 2015. Labels: Fourth of July Tomato. From Seed to Scrumptious. Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Finally planting, May 29th, 2015. What is so unusual about the blueberry bush shown above? Or the other two that also finally made it into the ground? Wouldn't it be ironic for them to keel over now that they have been finally planted? June 2, 2015 at 1:16 PM. Birds are a huge problem.the netting sure sounds like a great idea! From Seed to Scrumptious. Friday, July 24, 2015. Back Garden, July 24, 2015. It was a good deal cooler this morning. A comfortable time to stroll in the garden. It is early enough that the sun is casting the shadow of the white ash across the lawn. The major flower players in the garden on this date are the white or pink phlox, the African daisies, and cleome. Gloriosa daisy and phlox. Swiss Chard and kale. Labels: Blue Lake Beans. From Seed to Scrumptious: English Podded Peas

http://fromseedtoscrumptious.blogspot.com/2015/06/english-podded-peas.html

From Seed to Scrumptious. Tuesday, June 2, 2015. Mixed Bed, June 2,2015. Back in February I bought a little 8 ounce container of fresh, shelled English peas. A much enjoyed extra in February. Maybe twelve or more peas had stubby extensions that appeared to be roots starting to form in the peas. So of course I saved those peas to go in dirt in cell packs. And whoopee, they sprouted and made little pea plants. Two pea pods in the center. Peas picked June 2, 2015. Most pods had eight peas! After a Rainy Day.

http://fromseedtoscrumptious.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html

From Seed to Scrumptious. Sunday, January 11, 2015. We have had a very cold stretch of winter weather, with night time lows sometimes of 5 to 7 degrees. It is time to work on cooking the winter squash before it goes bad. There were two Marina di Chioggia squash left, this one and the one cut up in the following pictures. In this picture you can also see a butternut squash, and acorn squash and a buttercup squash. The Marina was cut into chunks for baking in the oven along with a big ham for dinner. Harve...

Moose Country Gardening: December 2011

http://moosecountrygardening.blogspot.com/2011_12_01_archive.html

My gardening journal chronicling the joys and challenges of a Zone 3 Northern Minnesota garden. Tuesday, December 13, 2011. 2011 Gardening in Review. Last January, I made several gardening resolutions. Here they are:. I will plant fewer "salad greens" that only end up feeding the slugs. I will can, freeze, or otherwise preserve everything we can't eat fresh. Even that last harvest of green beans which just kept on producing in 2010. I will begin to vermicompost before the year's end. One can always hope).

Every house where love abides and friendship is a guest, is surely home, and home sweet home for there the heart can rest." -Henry Van Dyke. Sunday, April 27, 2014. I'd love to say there are flowers blooming all over my garden but nothing much is happening here. Since we moved many times I lost a multitude of plants along the way, it's. Time to start over again. I wanted something to cheer me up so I brought home this new addition, viola. Her tender beauty and dainty petals makes me smile. I planted toma...

Moose Country Gardening: June 2012

http://moosecountrygardening.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

My gardening journal chronicling the joys and challenges of a Zone 3 Northern Minnesota garden. Wednesday, June 27, 2012. My heart is heavy this week as my little home town is dealing with a tragic flood that has caused extensive damage to the homes of my friends and neighbors, and my school where I also work. So I have had little time for gardening this past week. I don't know how long my martagon lilies were blooming (for the first time! Before I snapped these quick pictures on my phone the other day.

Every house where love abides and friendship is a guest, is surely home, and home sweet home for there the heart can rest." -Henry Van Dyke. Monday, June 24, 2013. Baby food from the garden and this tired mama. Shelling the peas can be tedious but worth the time. The flavor of sweet, tender peas can't be compared to bags of frozen peas from the market. I'll definitely plant a lot next year and I'm also planning on growing snow peas. Now what's going on with mom? I finally went to the doctor and did some ...

Moose Country Gardening: Kids in the Garden

http://moosecountrygardening.blogspot.com/2012/06/kids-in-garden.html

My gardening journal chronicling the joys and challenges of a Zone 3 Northern Minnesota garden. Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Kids in the Garden. Here's my little squash planter, the youngest of my three little garden helpers. It is a lot easier to get them to try peas fresh in the pod when they had a hand in putting them in the ground. They even help in the pickling and canning process in the fall. Not to sound all "doomsday-ish," but I'd like to think that my children would at least have an idea of how to sa...

From seed to mustard. Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Roasted garlic and balsamic onion white bean dip. Beans I would say that this friendly legume is mostly absent form the diet of the average non-vegetarian. But why? They're packed with protein, fiber, and other nutrients, and make a great substitution for a starchy side dish. Most importantly, they taste good. Do not fear the bean! 2 cans cannellini beans (I used the no salt added variety). 1 large red onion. 5 cup olive oil (total for recipe). Coat the tops ...

Right we go, My attempt at a spot of garden blogging, I'm far from your stereotypical gardener, I have very little horticultural knowledge but a massive appetite for homegrown vegetables should do the trick. Sunday, 8 February 2009. Time to get back into the garden. After a fantastic crop last year, its time to get back into the garden. Today I lifted the last of the winter leeks to make way for the new tatties. I planted the following. Rocket 5 row's in a mini tunnel. Home guard 4 row's. Looking like ar...
