The Potting Shed: April 2013
http://michellescountrygardens.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Tuesday, April 16, 2013. Bloom Day April 2013. Since spring seems somewhat elusive this year for my area, there are no blooms to be found anywhere outdoors. I found myself looking indoors for blooms for this first bloom day of spring. I surprised myself with the number of plants that I had blooming indoors. I really am not much of a houseplant kind of person. A primula I picked up the other day. Alyssum to go with pansies for a couple of early season containers. Thanks to Carol at May Dreams Gardens.

non-secateur: Tees for tomatoes
http://non-secateur.blogspot.com/2012/07/tees-for-tomatoes.html
Sunday, July 29, 2012. Ever wonder what to do with old T-shirts? This week I was looking for twine and found that I was completely out. OK nobody panic. My tomatoes desperately needed to be lashed to their stakes. Being the thrifty man that I am, I went after the stack of tees headed to the thrift store and snipped and ripped my way to tomato tie heaven. You're welcome. ;). Southern California Garden Blog. non-secateur: Plants we like: Crassula ovata 'Undulata'
http://non-secateur.blogspot.com/2011/11/plants-we-like-crassula-ovata-undulata.html
Monday, November 28, 2011. Plants we like: Crassula ovata 'Undulata'. There are so many plants that I love or want to love. It's so hard to figure out where to put them all. I remember when I first heard about Crassula ovata 'Undulata' (EuroAmerican has it as 'Jitters') from a post on Dirt Du Jour. So, now I like it so much I want to really let it kick up its heals. The question is where? Being the frugal gardener that I am, I will be taking cuttings to get the look I want, not buying more plants. My Cra...

non-secateur: Plant of the week: Muehlenbeckia complexa
http://non-secateur.blogspot.com/2010/10/plant-of-week-muehlenbeckia-complexa.html
Sunday, October 24, 2010. Plant of the week: Muehlenbeckia complexa. Is it a vine? It looks like a cross between boxwood and a maidenhair fern. What is it? Muehlenbeckia complexa, a little vining, scrambling plant from New Zealand. I love the way it fills in here and there. Shade or part sun is the plant's preferred home but it will grow in full sun with extra water. I'm using it partially clothe the cliff part of Whiskey Creek. OK so this week's plant of the week is a short one. There are so many plants...

non-secateur: Plant of the week: Gomphrena 'Fireworks'
http://non-secateur.blogspot.com/2010/09/plant-of-week-gomphrena-fireworks.html
Thursday, September 30, 2010. Plant of the week: Gomphrena 'Fireworks'. Now the waiting begins for all those breeders to get other colors into this line. I can't wait for a 4' tall G. 'Strawberry Fields'! What do you think? Here I mixed G. 'Fireworks' and G. 'Strawberry Fields'. You can see the effect that only four plants can make. October 3, 2010 at 11:17 AM. Dustin, you blog! The Potting Shed: October 2012
http://michellescountrygardens.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
Sunday, October 21, 2012. Fall in the garden. After some really cold nights there isn't much blooming in the garden, but there is still lots of interest. The Purple Prince Snapdragons reseed every year in the Secret Garden and are still blooming away. Salvia 'May Night' still producing a few blooms. Dinosaur kale in the Potager. The fall pillar display. The theme seems to be rusty elements. I love this little grass. Some of the Indian corn we grew. Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The Potting Shed: September 2012

Saturday, September 29, 2012. Bringing the garden indoors. Flower arrangements are a wonderful way to bring the garden indoors. Who doesn't love getting a bouquet of flowers? Just gathered and waiting to be arranged. Each arrangement has it's own personality. Outdoor potting and arranging table. I'd love to know which one is your favorite! Thursday, September 20, 2012. Sunday, August 26, 2012. Where the fairies dance. Have you ever seen - or thought you saw - a fairy? Perhaps you caught sight of a tiny wing glittering in the sunlight? Maybe you heard the sound of tinkling laughter coming from the garden? If so, you may have been lucky enough to glimpse a magical Flower Fairy.". The Girls Book of Flower Fairies by Frederick Warne. Gardening in the Real World: Winter & Light
http://realworldgardening.blogspot.com/2011/01/winter-light.html
Gardening in the Real World. Friday, January 14, 2011. I grabbed a quick photo this afternoon when I got home from work. It may not be the most beautiful photo of winter, but I think this one nails today on the head. I feel like this is what it looked like all day today - rather dull and monochromatic. Gardens at Waters East. January 14, 2011 at 6:40 PM. January 14, 2011 at 7:21 PM. Well, if I had snow it would cover up the mud! On the other hand I WALATed tonight without a jacket on. Trade offs. Gardening in the Real World: November 2009
http://realworldgardening.blogspot.com/2009_11_01_archive.html
Gardening in the Real World. Sunday, November 22, 2009. The End of the Line. Insert best Rod Serling voice here). Submitted for your consideration: the lowly common milkweed. Nestled inside their pod, the invaders line up, ready to launch their assault on unsuspecting gardens and fields. . . Their excitement over the plant made me look at it with a new appreciation. Have you ever really looked at a milkweed flower? They can be quite stunning! Have I thought to take a nice photo of one? But yes, when the ...
