Thursday, July 21, 2011. How to syphon water from the tub to water plants with a hose. 1) Put the end of the hose in the tub and turn on the hose for a minute, keeping the end under water. 2) Turn off the hose, still keeping the end under water. 3) Raise up the middle of the hose over a door or something high, window sill, etc. 4) Unscrew the end of the hose where it screws into the faucet. 6) Once you have suction, the water should drain from the tub onto your plants! There you have it, recycled water!

garden grows art: May 2010

http://gardengrowsart.blogspot.com/2010_05_01_archive.html

Tuesday, May 18, 2010. Since we moved in we've been talking about making the wall in our back yard taller. It opens onto a dirty, graffiti filled alley, hence the need for a bit more privacy and security. Plus, it is just hideously ugly, don't you think? Except for Sophie and Mark's chalk drawings, of course. And so the process goes. I call a few guys to get bids, they scratch their heads, look very doubtful, scratch their heads again and give me a huge. Ps the dirt issue in the front yard was resolved s...

garden grows art: gentleman's boutonnière

http://gardengrowsart.blogspot.com/2010/06/gentlemans-boutonniere.html

Friday, June 11, 2010. Sophie and I made tiny bouquets for our friends Michael and Jimmy for their birthday party. We used the nasturtiums that sprout up every spring in our garden. We also decorated the double chocolate cake we make with flowers as well. Our favorite Venice gentlemen wore the bouquets in their front pockets the whole party. Sophie was soooo proud! garden grows art: stripey playhouse

http://gardengrowsart.blogspot.com/2010/06/stripey-playhouse.html

Wednesday, June 9, 2010. Mark painted these stripes on the shack in the back a few years back. Now the shack is transitioning from Mark's hangout to Sophie's playhouse AND Mark's hangout. I decided to continue the stripes around to the other side. I also painted the flower boxes and planted them with a trailing succulent that is impossible to kill (which is great for me! garden grows art: the wall becomes a canvas

http://gardengrowsart.blogspot.com/2010/06/wall-becomes-canvas.html

Thursday, June 3, 2010. The wall becomes a canvas. Mark mentioned that he thought I should do some sort of mural on the wall. I felt this might be a bit of overkill, as Sophie's playhouse floor already has a mural of sorts on it. Now I just need to get Mark to sledge hammer some holes in the cement patio. (He made the mistake of telling me the sledge hammering was easy! The bamboo will be all around the perimeter of the back yard and will totally transform it into a tropical garden in no time!

Wildlife that can be seen in outback UK…. August 4, 2008, 2:06 pm. I went out walking on Sunday afternoon, we are lucky where I live as we are pretty much surrounded by countryside…. We often get newts and frogs in our back garden and the odd slow worm if your lucky! My mum had two of them for quite a few years – lol – that was until she left them out in the sun, then they became dead worms… Mmm not good really, but to be fair, it was an accident! A few steps further ;)…. Anyway, thought I’d share ...

Garden Grubs - composting, recycling, deep watering and soil turnover

Feed your garden - feed your Garden Grub! A simple device that achieves so many things for your garden beds:. Garden Grubs get water deep into the soil easily. Garden Grubs get nutrients down low into the soil where its wanted, not on the surface. Move your Grubs periodically, the "coring function" turns the soil over. Garden Grubs saves from having a separate stinky compost heap for organic/veggie/kitchen scraps. The cap stops evaporation. and garden "nasties" entering. Worms LOVE Garden Grubs. If using...

Garden Grumbles and Cross Stitch Fumbles

GARDEN GRUMBLES and CROSS STITCH FUMBLES and BIRDING BUMBLES. Wednesday, March 28, 2018. I don't have much energy today - but we can still see a lot with a walk around the edges of the front and backyards. Starting off with the bright green leaves of the Elderberry - the Black-headed Grosbeaks will eat all the berries before they even ripen. Oregon Junco on a Hawthorne - the tree is beginning to bud. My mom and sister with my dad's help have planted daffodils all over the place. A clump of Iris tenax.
