We have a small holding where we keep, not only our flock of Wensleydale sheep, but also Golden Guernsey goats, various chickens, ducks and cats. The Gedgrave Flock

I have an ever growing flock of Wensleydale sheep, both white and black in colour. These have to be kept separate for breeding purposes as we are not allowed to interbreed the two colours we therefore of course have to use different rams. I think the blacks are fantastic the whites are pretty good too! I am hoping over the next couple of years that I will be able to extend my black flock the blacks being even rarer than the whites and are in fact rarer than giant pandas!

The Wensleydale breed originated in the lower Wensleydale region of North Yorkshire in the early part of the 19. Century. The breed was developed to provide crossing rams for use on hill breeds like the Swaledale. The Wensleydale ram gives its progeny that extra size and quality to its fleece. Well, we have now finished showing and I can honestly say I have had a fantastic year. We attended all the planned shows. There is an incredible amount of work involved in getting the sheep ready to show but results make all that worthwhile!

Scalpay Linen - Hand weavers from the Outer Hebrides. Thursday, 4 April 2013. Just tying in a warp which is destined to be floor runners. It is a lovely worsted yarn with a fine nylon binder, twisted very firmly so it makes a great warp. I've sleyed one end per dent, so it's a quick one to warp, draft and tie-in, which makes a change from the linen. The weft is a very unusual beige boucle wool from Andrew at Northbank Mills. This is fun on the pirn winder and also in the shuttles, but finishes beautifully.
