This is the blog site for Gladi Porsche's Quilts. August 7, 2015: New doll quilt; crib quilt top complete! Taking stock mid year. I just started the hand quilting yesterday and here are front and back views:. I like using black thread to quilt Amish style quilts, but it does show any stitches that are uneven! The colors in this one give it an almost contemporary feel and I love how these “shot” cottons shimmer, especially this particular brand. A major goal was to finish Spring Sonata in time to exhibit ...

This is the blog site for Gladi Porsche's Quilts. July 14, 2015: “Stars in a Time Warp” crib quilt and other updates; More from Vermont Quilt Festival. I have been working mostly on the borders for the Stars in a Time Warp crib quilt. The leaves on the left border are all appliqued down by hand and the leaves on the right border are prepped and ready to be needle turned (ignore those blocks on the far right! More from Vermont still to come in future posts – stay tuned! I had a major splurge at the Vermon...

This is the blog site for Gladi Porsche's Quilts. July 4, 2015: Vermont Quilt Festival – more on judging and more pictures. I wrote back to her:. 8221; In reality, almost all of us use design elements that are already in existence (for example, quilt blocks! 8220;I think what I really mean is that when quilts are judged and awards are given, there should be some way – maybe bonus points? So….that’s enough on judging for today! Let me share some more quilts from the show that I liked (click for closeups).

This is the blog site for Gladi Porsche's Quilts. July 31, 2015: Why I make quilts; Star crib quilt corner blocks; more Denver Art Museum Native American exhibit. It’s also about continuing the long tradition of making quilts and working with textiles and honoring past quiltmakers and stitchers. Many of my quilts are functional objects – I sleep under several of them! I figured out a corner design for the star crib quilt! I used my light box to position the leaves:. Meanwhile I am continuing to make the ...

The Constant Quilter: Bit by Bit
http://theconstantquilter.blogspot.com/2015/07/bit-by-bit.html
Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Lest you think I have been idle so far this summer. I have made good progress on my latest potholder method quilt, "Burning Leaves". I try to give all my potholder method quilts a title that incorporates cooking or at least burning (since that is the way I cook! I have used the AQS engagement calendars since it came out (1986 I think). Summer is my least favorite season, but for some people in my family. well, I guess this says it all! The Constant Quilter: Necessity is indeed the mother of invention.
http://theconstantquilter.blogspot.com/2015/07/necessity-is-indeed-mother-of-invention.html
Thursday, July 23, 2015. Necessity is indeed the mother of invention. My husband bought me a Kindle Fire for our anniversary. When he brought back a "cover" for it I noticed that there was no hole for the lens to show through. Hmm, you mean I have to take it out of this thing every time I want to take a picture? If I'm going to do that I'll make one that I like! He agreed and it went back to the store. So this is what I came up with. Funny that I used vintage feedsacks for a 21st century gadget! I wish I...

The Constant Quilter: February 2015
http://theconstantquilter.blogspot.com/2015_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 23, 2015. Double Pink Time Warp Stars. A beautiful snow blowing but partly sunny day and I was able to whip up two double pink stars for the Stars in a Time Warp. I finished a quilt top and hemmed my neighbor's curtains (a real labor of love for a quilter - you all know what I mean! It was so warm (almost 40 degrees! That we had a Maine cookout at the neighbor's. Fun! I do hope it doesn't snow much more this week as we are running out of places to put it! Friday, February 20, 2015. I rea...

Sewing & Quilt Gallery: August 2015
http://quiltsoflove.blogspot.com/2015_08_01_archive.html
Wednesday, August 26, 2015. That's a nice non-descriptive title, huh? If I wrote, "More Hexagons", then half of you would take for the hills. But reality is, I have been doing relatively mundane things, and the hexagons are at the top of the interest list. I am putting a binding on the silk wholecloth. Yippy-do-da! I endeavor to make pretty cakes, but it is very clear I am a better quilter than cake decorator! Almost 9, and sporting all her Paris couture, in Paris no less! I have (I think! The front is p...
Sewing & Quilt Gallery: Springtime in the Geisha's Garden...MQX
http://quiltsoflove.blogspot.com/2014/04/springtime-in-geishas-gardenmqx.html
Monday, April 14, 2014. Springtime in the Geisha's Garden.MQX. It measures just about 60" square (a hair smaller). I started on the dahlia center last March. This center medallion has a dark brown piping between the ivory and the print from the silk Radiance. I have also put silk accents in other areas on the quilt. This fabric is simply addictive, and I love working with it. Here are a few links to the thought process I used during construction. .Here. And many were silk. The hardest areas to design qui...
Sewing & Quilt Gallery: March 2015
http://quiltsoflove.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
Monday, March 30, 2015. This is a crazy time of year for me. Kids are busy with school. And I am taking off for 5 days next week to teach 4 classes and attend MQX in Manchester, NH. I think I am mostly ready for my classes, but those thoughts of doubt always creep in. I don't like surprises much so I have spent a lot of time thinking of lots of different scenarios for the classes. Notice the hot pink at the bottom? That is the backing! The design has some flowers - tulips, petunias, a sunflower and the d...

Thursday, January 29, 2015. Smack in the middle of winter.not a whole lot of cooperation with the weather, The day that I tried to take a picture of this entire quilt there was very flat light. But you get the idea.it's 78" of pretty feathered star blocks. And it was destined for a custom job. I am now up to my proverbial eye-balls in snow.two snow days this week (30" fell! Already and a potential 3rd one tomorrow, to give another 8-12". I cannot imagine where we will put it. I am plugging ahead ...The R...
Sewing & Quilt Gallery: May 2015
http://quiltsoflove.blogspot.com/2015_05_01_archive.html
Tuesday, May 26, 2015. Couple of May Finishes. May is nearly done. It has been a crazy month on many fronts. I have a couple of client finishes from a week ago. This one is a 71" quilt that I tried like heck to pull a semi-custom out of. Sometimes budgets are better suited to edge-to-edge, but the owners and the quilts have other thoughts. I do try to accommodate when possible. The center of the quilt has this rose block, which has a little bit of custom framing and feathers. I kept the background filler...
Sewing & Quilt Gallery: Something
http://quiltsoflove.blogspot.com/2015/07/something.html
Monday, July 13, 2015. While the title "Something" isn't terribly exciting or descriptive, it is less monotonous than another post entitled "Puttering"! While the lack of schedule in the summer has some benefits, I don't find it conducive to my need and desire to produce, and to create. Never the less, in the last 3 weeks I have done 5 edge to edge quilts. Yup, that is all. Two are lap sized also! Here are three that are heading home to Erin in IA today. The pantograph is called Flying Paisley. The goals...
