Mainly school ideas: Creative Maths Classrooms
http://mainlyschool.blogspot.com/2010/07/creative-maths-classrooms.html
Mostly about High School teaching and leadership. Sunday, July 18, 2010. This is a slightly different kind of post. Prompted by this week's #ukedchat on Twitter, I wanted to ask if anyone would like to post their ideas specifically about Creative Maths Clasrooms here or on Twitter (maybe you could send them to me @Janshs and use the hashtag #creativemathsclassrooms? Maybe you could also post good websites/resources/people to follow on Twitter? Neuroscience in the classroom. Make lots of use of mind maps.

Mainly school ideas: We are the ones we've been waiting for
http://mainlyschool.blogspot.com/2010/05/we-are-ones-weve-been-waiting-for.html
Mostly about High School teaching and leadership. Friday, May 28, 2010. We are the ones we've been waiting for. Had a great Year 10 lesson today based on the Hopi Elders prophecy:. You have been telling people that this is the Eleventh Hour, now you. Must go back and tell the people that this is the Hour. And there are. Things to be considered. . . . Where are you living? What are you doing? What are your relationships? Are you in right relation? Where is your water? It is time to speak your truth. Http:...

Mainly school ideas: October 2010
http://mainlyschool.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
Mostly about High School teaching and leadership. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. How we try to 'do' professional development. I thought it was about time to ask what people think of our teacher professional development programme. We want to move away from homogenous PD and believe it should be from Beginning Teachers (pre-service) to headship! It takes several forms (and it's for teachers and all support staff):. Just starting a paired coaching/mentoring programme (has been running a few weeks). NQTs engag...

Mainly OU teaching ideas: positivism and evidence based practice
http://mainlyouteaching.blogspot.com/2011/11/positivism-and-evidence-based-practice.html
Mainly OU teaching ideas. Saturday, November 12, 2011. Positivism and evidence based practice. First posted on Janshs. One of my fellow students posed the question: what is Evidence Based Practice and is it the same as positivism? I have been wrestling with this thought for a couple of days now. E891 Educational Enquiry: Study Guide prepared by Martyn Hammersley, pages 18-21:-. So I do not think that postivism and EBP equate totally, since there is an opportunity for EBP to draw on qualitative methods.

Mainly OU teaching ideas: what is a theoretical framework?
http://mainlyouteaching.blogspot.com/2009/05/what-is-theoretical-framework.html
Mainly OU teaching ideas. Sunday, May 24, 2009. What is a theoretical framework? What is a theoretical framework, where do you get one, and how does it affect the research and the researcher [1]. 183; The researcher starts with some preconceptions – which could be termed bias but Glaser (2002) asserts that this is not so because these notions are acknowledged and described. [2]. 183; These preconceptions determine the researcher’s personal ontology (what s/he perceives as truth). 183; The whole process d...

Mainly OU teaching ideas: Reflexivity
http://mainlyouteaching.blogspot.com/2011/07/reflexivity.html
Mainly OU teaching ideas. Monday, July 25, 2011. Something I wrote ages ago:. The importance of a reflexive approach is, perhaps, defined by what might happen if researchers are not reflexive. If the subjectivity of the researcher is denied or ignored, then the analysis takes no account of the reactions of the subjects to the interviewer and thus a large section of the social interaction that has taken place is not considered when constructing frameworks or theories in action. There remains a concern tha...

Mainly OU teaching ideas: preparing for viva
http://mainlyouteaching.blogspot.com/2015/02/preparing-for-viva.html
Mainly OU teaching ideas. Tuesday, February 17, 2015. A few thoughts on the year 3 weekend from the beginning of February - this is just my 'take' on all the excellent presentations from students and staff. In no particular order:-. Is your thesis title right? Does it really do what it says on the tin? Have you checked the assessment criteria? Remember that an EdD should demonstrate contribution to practice as well as to theory - and your abstract should highlight this. Look at Austin's Butterfly. After ...
