Sunday, June 05, 2005. Posted by Browler at 22:36. Links to this post. As Ol' Blue Eyes says. Our son is almost four weeks old. We're lucky to have generous family and friends. For that matter, let me record a word of thanks for the coalition of parents at the postgraduate community (Goodenough College) in which we live here in London. Among other facets of their support, a group of volunteers cooked evening meals for us for the first two weeks of Lev's (and his parents' new) life. Links to this post.

To explain some of the pictures:. The one in the marathon skirt is me. I ran the London Marathon on 17th April, finishing in 3 hours and 51 minutes. Trevor, my friend the actor, is beside me. The other picture, of Sandra. well, no explanation needed. Posted by Browler at 00:36. Links to this post. Posted by Browler at 00:36.

Friday, July 29, 2005. Some of them come from our recent holiday in Provence, possibly the most wonderful corner of the world. Others are from London, Manchester, or Ukraine - where I was reporting on a big meeting of millionaires who wanted to dictate investment terms to the new president, Viktor Yushchenko. Browler: November 2005
http://browlerblog.blogspot.com/2005_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 28, 2005. Started on) 11 Ноября. Today Lyova is six months old. For some time now I have wanted to write a bit about how he is developing but the days seem to pass me by. Today seems an appropriate day to set aside some time for the task. I apologise in advance for the length of it. This hour, itself, is a measure of Lev’s development. So is the fact that I am writing this account. Lev’s development and the return of my sanity have gone hand in hand. Frankly, I stand in awe at those peop...

Browler: May 2005

Thursday, May 26, 2005. Life as we now know it. A quick update for the dwindling crowd of readers (which I think now consists of the grandparents). As the great Gordon Lightfoot sings: "All is well". Leon is growing rapidly, according to the midwives (already more than a third heavier than on the day he arrived). Leon now officially exists. He was registered at Camden Town Hall on Tuesday. That also means he'll soon have a passport. We had his passport photos done this morning. Enjoy the pictures below!

Browler: October 2005
http://browlerblog.blogspot.com/2005_10_01_archive.html
Monday, October 31, 2005. Do Svidaniia, Trevor. Trevor has gone. Coincidentally, so has most of the snow. A mess remains - both in our flat and on the salty, sandy streets. Trevor won't be back, at least not for a while; but the snow should return soon enough. Pavlovsk is also the setting for much of The Idiot. Anyway, it is an elegant palace surrounded by a large park full of birch, fir, lakes, rivers and various beautiful architectural follies and statues scattered through the woods. Links to this post.

Back to the PhD thesis, back to routine, back to borshch. Efficient public transport - Hullo! Cold winters - Hullo! Bribes for policemen ( Dokumentiki, pazhaluista! Russia, here we come. As for the map, the black arrow shows where our flat will be. Posted by Browler at 17:19. Links to this post. Links to this post.

Browler: January 2006
http://browlerblog.blogspot.com/2006_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 30, 2006. Why it is interesting to live in Russia, part 74103. Let me take just the month of January in this strangely wonderful (or wonderfully strange) country. Was different. "How did you lose your limbs in the war, papa? Well, actually.". When is a rock not a rock? When it has a device inside it that passes top secret information to British spies,. So the FSB (aka KGB) found this rock in Moscow; it turned out that one Russian and four British spies were using it as a 21st-century.

Browler: February 2006
http://browlerblog.blogspot.com/2006_02_01_archive.html
Monday, February 27, 2006. There are a number of things about the Russian way of life that we'll miss when we leave. And one of the most fundamental is tea-drinking. Yes, the English do it a lot, too. So do the Chinese, the Indians, the Sri Lankans, many in the Arabic world, and on and on. A Bukharian friend of mine tells me that Bukharian Jews have mastered tea-drinking. The best tea in Russia tends to come from Ceylon (Sri Lanka), Georgia, and, of course, India and China. Anyone else heard of this?

Browler: March 2006
http://browlerblog.blogspot.com/2006_03_01_archive.html
Friday, March 31, 2006. See you in a few days! Posted by Browler at 20:30. Links to this post. Thursday, March 30, 2006. Phew - what a scare! For a few hours, Browler disappeared. The conspiracy theories were swilling in the air. Had our NKVD man downstairs read the post about his dog, and decided to have us shut down? Was Volodia worried about his image appearing in my profile? Would the disappearance of Browler be followed by a knock on the door at 2am? Would it happen now? It was time and I was ready.
