high heeled foodie: adventures down under (sydney, australia)

http://highheeledfoodie.blogspot.com/2012/08/adventures-down-under-sydney-australia.html

Beautiful shoes delicious food. Wednesday, August 1, 2012. Adventures down under (sydney, australia). View of Sydney Harbour Bridge. Winter at Bondi Beach - it was almost 70 degrees and sunny. Jamie's Italian (Central Business District):. Celebrity chef restaurants have a way of being disappointingly mediocre (after all, the chef himself is typically in another state, or in this case, another country), so I was a bit wary of selecting Jamie's Italian. Jamie's Italian: 107 Pitt Street, Sydney. We arrived ...

high heeled foodie: October 2011

http://highheeledfoodie.blogspot.com/2011_10_01_archive.html

Beautiful shoes delicious food. Saturday, October 29, 2011. Don't hate me because i'm a food blogger! Chefs bite back, seattle met). I don't typically pick up Seattle Met magazine (I'm a loyal subscriber of Seattle magazine), but I was standing in line at the grocery store and was lured in by its 25 Best Restaurants. List I got home and immediately started reading, but to be honest, I was a bit bored by this uninspired list. It called out the usual big names including Canlis. And Staple and Fancy. That j...

high heeled foodie: my favorite croque (café presse, capitol hill)

http://highheeledfoodie.blogspot.com/2012/08/my-favorite-croque-cafe-presse-capitol.html

Beautiful shoes delicious food. Saturday, August 25, 2012. My favorite croque (café presse, capitol hill). Confession: I've likely eaten more croque monsieurs / madames in the last month than the average person eats in a year. Maybe even a lifetime. Without question, my favorite in Seattle is from Café Presse. A French bar / café on 12th Ave. and sister to Le Pichet. Croque Madame = Yummy deliciousness. Why are you still reading? August 29, 2012 at 8:14 AM. I totally agree. Oh GOD these are good! Late-Su...

high heeled foodie: cheers to julia! french cooking with a modern twist (rn74, downtown)

http://highheeledfoodie.blogspot.com/2012/08/cheers-to-julia-french-cooking-with.html

Beautiful shoes delicious food. Wednesday, August 15, 2012. French cooking with a modern twist (rn74, downtown). Do you know what today is? That's right. It's the 100th celebration of Julia Child's birth day! It's said that Julia was responsible for revolutionizing American home cooking in the mid-twentieth century, replacing green-bean casseroles. Over what would have been Julia's 100th birthday, with restaurants nationwide celebrating this day with a commemorative " Julia Child Restaurant Week. Heirloo...

Princeton Eats Portland: Friday night Pho

http://princetoneatsportland.blogspot.com/2012/07/friday-night-pho.html

Thursday, July 12, 2012. Pho is way easier than I thought it would be, though getting the broth just right is not easy (more on that below too). Whatever, here's the recipe. 2 medium yellow onions, chopped roughly. 2 medium carrots, chopped roughly. 4 stalks celery, chopped roughly. 4-inch piece ginger, peeled. 5-6 pounds beef soup bones (marrow and knuckle bones). 8 - 10 peppercorns. 3 Once done, strain the stock through fine strainer. Discard solids. 1 1/2 tablespoons salt. 4 tablespoons fish sauce.

Princeton Eats Portland: Irish Week (still?!?): Corned Beef Hash and a Reuben Sandwich

http://princetoneatsportland.blogspot.com/2012/03/irish-week-still-corned-beef-hash-and.html

Monday, March 19, 2012. Corned Beef Hash and a Reuben Sandwich. I was much more concerned with eating than taking pics of the food this weekend. I apologize. Making 4 pounds of corned beef for yourself means that you will have quite a bit of leftover corned beef. Hence, Irish week continues. 2 Tbsp. olive oil. 2 baking potatoes (about 1 lb), peeled and cut into 1/2 inch cubes. 1 onion, chopped. Coarse salt and ground pepper. 1 red bell pepper, chopped. 2 Tbsp prepared horseradish. 1/4 cup heavy cream.

Princeton Eats Portland: Thai Street Food

http://princetoneatsportland.blogspot.com/2012/06/thai-street-food.html

Tuesday, June 12, 2012. It's been a long time since I have seen your smiling faces, loyal readers. It's been a rough spring in terms of getting regular free time, so though I have been cooking here and there, I just haven't had time to tell you about it. I think I will be in town, at least during the week, for most of the summer, so I am back. Hopefully. Remember last summer when I took the Thai street food class at the Portland Culinary Workshop (check out the green papaya salad. 2 Tbsp shaved palm sugar.

Princeton Eats Portland: Irish Week: Corned Beef and Cabbage and Irish Whiskey Sours

http://princetoneatsportland.blogspot.com/2012/03/irish-week-corned-beef-and-cabbage-and.html

Friday, March 16, 2012. Irish Week: Corned Beef and Cabbage and Irish Whiskey Sours. There is no way that Irish Week could be complete without the classic corned beef and cabbage, so I saved the best for last. I also gave myself a St. Patrick's day manicure. 1 package Trader Joe's Corned Beef (or another pre-made corned beef, or make it yourself). 1 lb baby potatoes. 1 head cabbage, sliced into about eight wedges. 3 Remove the cabbage wedges from the pot and add to the serving platter. Serve warm. Shake ...

Princeton Eats Portland: Green Papaya Salad

http://princetoneatsportland.blogspot.com/2011/09/green-papaya-salad.html

Wednesday, September 14, 2011. It's a little weird that I am about to talk about cooking classes two days in a row. I have only taken four cooking classes in my whole life, and it just happens that two of them were in the last week. So here goes. I heard about the Portland Culinary Workshop. The menu of items we made, with their Thai names, is as follows:. Green papaya salad (Som Tom). Chive cakes (Kanom Gui Chai). Crunchy prawn cakes (Gung Foi Tort). Grilled pork skewers (Muu Bing). Was its name: Miracl...

Princeton Eats Portland: March 2012

http://princetoneatsportland.blogspot.com/2012_03_01_archive.html

Thursday, March 22, 2012. Chinese Sizzling Rice Soup with Pork Stock. My freezer is packed tight now that I have my 2012 pork. Because I need to keep more than just beef and pork in my freezer, I desperately need to make some room. Since I just took the Stupendous Stocks class at Portland Culinary Workshop, I decided to use my new skills and make pork stock. 8 lbs pork soup bones. 1/4 lb carrots (about 3), roughly chopped. 1/4 lb celery (about 4 stalks), roughly chopped. 2 cans sliced water chestnuts.

Tuesday, August 30, 2011. Chicken Shawarma and Work. You may have noticed, readers, that I have really been putting an effort into posting more often. I have even been taking pictures of thrown-together meals in case I am short a post or two. But sometimes life, and by life I mostly mean work, gets in the way. And work life (staying late in the office), I won't be able to post any real meals this week. Thursday, August 25, 2011. Pickle Themed Dinner: Pork Chops Brined in Pickle Juice and? Princeton Eats Portland: Beef Panang Curry

http://princetoneatsportland.blogspot.com/2012/07/beef-panang-curry.html

Wednesday, July 11, 2012. I know, I know, I already posted a beef panang curry recipe ( here. I wouldn't have posted this meal except that I tried something a little bit novel, at least for me, and it turned out spectacularly. I KNOW. But check this out:. 1 pound beef stew meat, trimmed and cut into 1 inch cubes. 1 Tbsp vegetable oil. 2 Tbsp panang curry paste. 1 can coconut milk. 1 Tbsp fish sauce. 1 Tbsp shaved palm sugar (or brown sugar). 1 green bell pepper, cut into chunks. 4 Add the meat and bell p...
