Second Wind Workshop: November 2014
http://secondwindworkshop.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Monday, November 3, 2014. Yet Another Clean Slate. Its official…we have a new house and a new space for a workshop. I’m out of the basement and back in the garage. I’ll be giving up some floor space compared to the Colorado workshop, however, this two car garage has some nice natural light and ten foot high ceilings. Some other nice features include a storage attic with ladder access and a dedicated electrical panel. Any tips from those with similar shops would be greatly appreciated! While it is fun to ...

Second Wind Workshop: April 2014
http://secondwindworkshop.blogspot.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 26, 2014. On the Wind…Again! I know it’s been really quiet here on the blog and in the workshop lately…OK, so for the last couple months! Shop time has been pretty scarce as I was pursuing another career opportunity with my company. The good news is that I was successful, and that means another relocation for the family and the workshop. The Harbin family and the Second Wind Workshop will be on the move from beautiful Colorado to sunny Florida! It’ll probably be another couple month...

Second Wind Workshop: September 2013
http://secondwindworkshop.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Sunday, September 8, 2013. Nihon no surudoi nomi! I really hope Google Translate can be trusted and that I haven’t just declared that I use goose fat for deodorant or that I drive a hairdryer to work.only one of which is true. A couple weeks ago I took my first crack at using barrel hinges on an Oak box project. My measurements were just a hair off so the lid didn’t line up perfectly with the box when closed. After all, there is a pretty spiffy looking Maple burl, veneered panel in the lid. I wanted the ...

Second Wind Workshop: January 2014
http://secondwindworkshop.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Sunday, January 26, 2014. Not the Boxes You're Looking For. At the end of the week, near the end of the game the score is Wenge – 1 and Pete – 0. This week’s box (three boxes actually) was intended to be a small Wenge box with a Marblewood sliding lid. The corner joinery was to be a half-lap/shoulder scheme with Maple dowel pegs. This week has actually been a painful lesson in the highly difficult nature of working with Wenge, especially when it is quarter sawn. Almost all of the pieces experienced tear-...

Second Wind Workshop: August 2013
http://secondwindworkshop.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html
Sunday, August 18, 2013. You can never have too many, well you know. One thing is for sure…the longer you’re a woodworker, the more and more clamps you’ll accumulate. They come as gifts, they tempt you on the shelves in stores, you see Norm using them on TV…and then somebody online shares a link to a sale or a once-in-a-lifetime coupon for so much off that it would be financially irresponsible for you to not buy them! It’s not that we don’t have a lot of clamps. I won’t even try to argue with you&#...

Second Wind Workshop: Break it Down
http://secondwindworkshop.blogspot.com/2012/09/break-it-down.html
Tuesday, September 18, 2012. Project momentum continues to build here in the Second Wind Workshop. The squirrels have been kept at bay! We have a confirmed sighting of a finished project. It’s a small one, but a done one! I present to you the Break Down Candle Holder. Again, I’d like to give a shout out to Steve Ramsey over at. For the initial design. Click on over to his sight for some great project ideas and a little wackiness. Here we have all the parts stacked up neatly. Here it is all lit up. I hand...

Second Wind Workshop: First Veneered Panels
http://secondwindworkshop.blogspot.com/2012/06/first-veneered-panels.html
Wednesday, June 20, 2012. Much like a parent fawning over their firstborn child, I’m going to share a truckload of pictures with you in documenting my first attempts at veneering…and like said parent, I’m going to swear that the next photo is even cuter than the one you just saw and you would never forgive yourself for missing it! Maybe it’s time to start making some home movies. Http:/ secondwindworkshop.blogspot.com/2012/06/pressing-matters.html. Inch thick MDF as the substrate. I sandwiched the panel ...
