Out of the silence, a vacuum to avoid. Grace under pleasure, we’re only humanoid. No mastermind behind it all. Ideas arise, fighting words fall. Riverbed footprints in ancient pursuit. Daily Yamazaki: May 2009

An anecdotal reference guide to fast and junk foods of Japan. Thursday, May 28, 2009. The inspirations of co-branding can take the consumer down strange and winding roads. One of the more absurd, and thus ultimately clever ideas has come from the folks who inspired the title of this blog, the Yamazaki Baking Company. Or Mr Brain's brain core. The meaning of trepan. But of course, pan. Become a bit conflated and one's left stumped and mystified as to what's really going on here.*. Tuesday, May 26, 2009.

An anecdotal reference guide to fast and junk foods of Japan. Wednesday, May 26, 2010. Lifting the logo from the real thing, Asahi Green Cola positions itself in the market as a "natural" product with a sort of "trendy" appeal. Of course when your main barker is a popular, though somewhat long in tooth, J-Pop star, one is convinced that the marketers at Asahi have no idea what the kids are into. Perhaps the marketing is toward boomers, who probably also don't care about Kiyosuke Himoro either. It just hi...

An anecdotal reference guide to fast and junk foods of Japan. Monday, February 8, 2010. Here's my recipe. It's about as simple as one gets. 200 - 300 grams mentaiko. 2 T unsalted butter. 2 T finely chopped onion. 250 ml cream (butterfat content to your desire). Finely chopped negi (Japanese leek). Bring a large pot of water to a boil and add pasta. Cook for appropriate doneness. This can be done in about 9 - 13 minutes. It's that easy! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). And one in particular has become a bit of guilty pleasure for me. The Hokkaido Steamed Cheesecake (北海道チーズ蒸しケーキ) is one of the most beguiling and strange things that pass for normal here. In truth, it's not really that good, but like a bad habit, I crave it. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). My original intent in writing this blog was to make a reference...

So, of course, tempted by constant novelty and having 100 yen sitting in my pocket, I had to buy the KitKat Ginger Ale Flavor (KitKat ジンジャーエール味). Can anyone resist? Cracking open the foil-wrapped inner package, an unmistakable whiff of ginger ale filled my nose. Wow! I can hardly wait! An anecdotal reference guide to fast and junk foods of Japan. Wednesday, July 30, 2014. It's all about bears. See, the watermelons come from Kumamoto. These are the little ones that (and I quote)"contain a lot of citrulline which has a diuretic effect, and lycopene which has antioxidant properties. Why don’ you get through the hot summer vigorously eating delicious watermelons grown in Kumamoto Prefecture? Bigger than those puny Kumamotos! Tuesday, July 29, 2014.
