On the Northwest Coast there are traditionally three types of bowls: canoe shaped, round, and zoomorphic (representing animal forms) with a hollowed out area for the bowl. They were and are generally carved from harder wood such as alder, birch, or maple. The exception to this are the large feast bowls. Which are carved from red cedar and given the shape of wolves, killer whales, seals, or giant Dzonaqua (old woman of the woods) which can be as much as fifteen feet in length, or more. Life as Art, Duane Pasco. By Duane Pasco and Barbara Winther, distributed by the University of Washington Press was published in 2013. The book chronicles the early life of the artist and his involvement in the revival of Northwest Coast Native Art. Large feast bowls like this were and are used by the Kwakwakawakw Indians of British Columbia to serve food from during their potlatches. Friday, June 13, 2014. Wednesday, December 3, 2008. So I was asked to smoke a turkey and a duck for this wonderful day with family. First time for both in the smoker so let the fun begin. For the turkey I did use a injection, creole butter. I also rubbed it with Tony Chachere's creole seasoning. On the duck I just used the seasoning. No I didn't put my new niece Lila into the smoker.
