SE Texas Birding & Wildlife Watching: June 2015

http://jeffincypress.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

SE Texas Birding and Wildlife Watching. Jeff Mohamed blogs about birds and other wildlife in the Houston area - and occasionally farther afield. Monday, June 29, 2015. Anahuac - beautiful as ever! Saturday we spent three hours at Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge, probably our favorite nature site in southeast Texas. Even when there aren't a lot of birds around, the refuge always producing at least a few interesting sightings - plus we both love the wetlands landscape. Tuesday, June 23, 2015. There is a h...

SE Texas Birding and Wildlife Watching. Jeff Mohamed blogs about birds and other wildlife in the Houston area - and occasionally farther afield. Sunday, May 24, 2015. Dee and I have flown away to Utah. I'm expecting to be able to post about some interesting birds early next week. While we're away, our resident male Northern Cardinal will no doubt be looking after our backyard. Wednesday, May 20, 2015. As soon as I had photographed the Caracaras, it started to rain and so I headed back to work. This w...

SE Texas Birding and Wildlife Watching. Jeff Mohamed blogs about birds and other wildlife in the Houston area - and occasionally farther afield. Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Migrants - At Last! The CyFair campus saw a lot of bird activity last week. Unfortunately, though, much of it was during periods of bad weather, which made photography difficult. I had brief glimpses of a Swainson's Thrush. I consoled myself by taking a picture of a flock of American White Pelicans that flew over. I managed to get just a...

SE Texas Birding and Wildlife Watching. Jeff Mohamed blogs about birds and other wildlife in the Houston area - and occasionally farther afield. Wednesday, February 25, 2015. I had to go to the North Cypress Medical Center on Huffmeister the other day. As usual, there were plenty of ducks and geese on the ponds. Most of them were not wild birds but I couldn't resist taking a couple of pictures of them. I was impressed by how well these ones swam in line. Thursday, February 19, 2015. You never know where ...

SE Texas Birding and Wildlife Watching. Jeff Mohamed blogs about birds and other wildlife in the Houston area - and occasionally farther afield. Sunday, March 29, 2015. Now that spring has arrived, the bird situation is changing on the CyFair campus on Barker-Cypress Road. Our year-round residents are still here, of course, and every morning echoes with the songs of Northern Mockingbird (below), Red-winged Blackbirds and Northern Cardinals (below). I'm hoping that this spring migration will produce more ...

Cockatiel Chaos: June 2009

http://cockatielchaos.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html

Pet birds and birding. Sunday, June 28, 2009. California has a variety of different gulls. Identifying them is further complicated by the different feather patterns exhibited by the young seagulls. California gulls are everywhere. They're at the beach, in the parking lots, they've very adaptable to human environments. This is an adult California gull. Note the white spots on the tips of his primaries. They have yellow beaks with a red spot. He looked really nice against the waves. Links to this post.

The Passenger's View: Macropsia

http://jerrydwhite.blogspot.com/2009/12/macropsia.html

Thursday, December 10, 2009. Through a sliver in the blinds I peek,. One, the remnants of fire. Readying itself to retire,. Exiting with lazy evening purple. Farewell is offered to the other one,. Drifting in its paleness,. Shrouded in silken sari. She assumes her duty,. Governing the darkness in solitude. Howls of gratitude soar one by one. Come the primitive songs;. No crescent tonight, only crescendo. Against the blackened backdrop,. Showered with crystals,. She slides westward,. As it does tonight,.

Steph's Birding Blog: January 2013

http://brickbungalowbackyard.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html

Thursday, January 10, 2013. I am a bad blogger! I can barely keep up with one, let alone two. I've decided to combine them. So if anyone would like to join me, I can be found at: Little Brick Bungalow. Yard has been pretty busy with the regulars, but this cute little Red Breasted Nuthatch is new. It's been hanging out since Christmas Day. It may have been here sooner, but this is the first that I've seen it. I also saw a White Breasted Nuthatch on Christmas Eve, but not since. Friday, May 22, 2009. Finally getting to enjoy the Spring! It was a very busy week for me. 4 tests within a week, I thought my brain was going to explode - luckily I got to get out last weekend and today. First: on 5/10, I spotted a Hairy Woodpecker in the yard. He went to both feeders, I am kind of wondering if he's the same one that stopped in over the winter. Pics are blurry and dark because I took them through the window. Walking up to the pond we were greeted by this family of 5:. On our way back we...

The Passenger's View: So How Was The Zoo?

http://jerrydwhite.blogspot.com/2009/02/so-how-was-zoo.html

Wednesday, February 11, 2009. So How Was The Zoo? It was pretty much like it is everyday. Oh, you know. The caged residents gave us their usual display of half-baked affection. You have to catch them early, at least ten minutes before lunch. Once they're fed, they don't care much to do anything but loaf around, well out of sight from. Ever come across one of these displays of "affection" on your vehicle window? I have to say, though, this Mandrill didn't remind me of any. I Like Blogs Like.

pura vida en costa rica

Pura vida en costa rica. Where I'm at and what I'm doing or trying to do in costa rica. Wednesday, January 26, 2011. The meaning of 'pura vida'. I noticed several gringos walking around with "pura vida" tattooed on their body. It's about as original as getting barbed wire around your bicep. One guy had it written in big block letters going down his whole arm. I bet he'll regret that once he gets back home. I'll worry about it later. ( Oh well now I'm totally broke, pura vida! Jeff in Dresden

Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Dresden, November 2011. While the stubbornly detail-obsessed nostalgic in me would have preferred being delivered to the Hauptbahnhof in a forward-facing window seat of a Deutsche Bahn train, I was instead dropped off at Bahnhof Neustadt by a middle-aged Berliner driving a late-model Ford hatchback (arranged through a ride-sharing service). So began my triumphant return to Dresden in November 2011! Ah, yes, Bahnhof Neustadt! Aren't we going to that part of town tomorrow anywa...
