Joanna journeys with a camera

Joanna journeys with a camera. Wednesday, August 1, 2012. I haven't really paid much attention to cinematography while watching movies, except for those ones like Winged Migration. When it's really the subject of the film. The camera work is slow and deliberate. There is a contrast between dark saturated colours for the interiors and quite high key, almost blown out exposures outdoors. And always there is the counterpoint of the beautiful turquoise ocean. It's a gorgeously filmed series- and ...Although ...

Joanna journeys with a camera: Do I have a shooting style?

http://joannajourneyswithacamera.blogspot.com/2012/07/do-i-have-shooting-style.html

Joanna journeys with a camera. Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Do I have a shooting style? I'm still learning to use the modes of this camera and I usually shoot in the program mode or the aperture priority mode because I often use the macro setting and like to have the background out of focus. Also I am more and more using exposure compensation and the histogram. I'm beginning to push myself to do more experimenting with camera modes, depending on the situation. As for location, the world around me is what in...

Joanna journeys with a camera. Wednesday, July 25, 2012. Calling yourself an artist. Here's a tricky subject: deciding if I am an artist or not. It's something I've struggled with since I was a child. You know how families do that thing of assigning labels to each child? What is “art? In its narrowest sense, visual art is often thought of as paintings, sculptures and drawings- the things we would see in an art gallery. But I would also include collage, multi-media, installations, printmaking, cartoon...

Joanna journeys with a camera. Monday, January 30, 2012. The rule that held me back. When I was a teenager I went through a phase where I was concerned about the worthiness of my conversation. I decided I didn’t want to participate in small talk and I would only speak when the subject was relevant and worthwhile. Needless to day, there wasn’t much to talk about most of the time! Too many people did that! This photograph is an example. It’s a plastic wine glass on the bathroom windowsill. Th...The task wa...

Joanna journeys with a camera. Saturday, February 25, 2012. Putting it all together. I'm sad that the Journey of Recognition course is over! Erly at Lavender Blue talks about the relaxed calm feeling or the surge of excitement when you click the shutter. I feel this sometimes too and it tells me that I am being true to my own vision, being in the flow. So, what next? Thank you Kat and all my classmates for making this a true journey of inspiration. Joanna journeys with a camera. Tuesday, June 19, 2012. Poppies in a pot on the outdoor table in my friend's back yard. Something dreamy about the out-of-focus bamboo in the background and the backlighted hairs on the stems. I like the light in this photograph. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile. Up on Haliburton Hill: Clafoutis

http://uponhaliburtonhill.blogspot.com/2015/07/clafoutis.html

Up on Haliburton Hill. Observances about nature and life from just outside Victoria BC . . . and from sundry other locations. Saturday, July 25, 2015. Maybe you’ve never heard of this classic French dessert, or maybe you think it’s complicated. It’s not. It’s basically fresh whole cherries baked in a simple custard and I made it this afternoon for a garden party. So I was happy to find one that won’t take up too much space. This is what it looks like. I did a little research online and found that. Here&#...

Up on Haliburton Hill. Observances about nature and life from just outside Victoria BC . . . and from sundry other locations. Monday, August 3, 2015. A Malcolm Island Wedding. We spent the long weekend attending a wedding on Malcolm Island, off the northeast coast of Vancouver Island. The community called Sointula. Our friend Paul lived there for years and his two sons were born on the island at a place called Mitchell Bay. And what a fabulous celebration it was! Here are our friends and parents of the g...

Up on Haliburton Hill. Observances about nature and life from just outside Victoria BC . . . and from sundry other locations. Saturday, January 31, 2015. Just around the corner from our street is the Tortilleria Zaragoza, a store that creates and sells corn tortillas. We know they're fresh because we can see them being made by the ancient machines just behind the counter. Having access to fresh tortillas within steps of your home is one of the benefits of living in the centro. Links to this post. It's no...

A week ago a friend and I visited our buddy Kath in Vancouver. These photos are of the cement silos down at Granville Island. Aren't they fun! It's been weeks and weeks since I posted here. Life has been busy but not that busy, but somehow I've got out of the habit of blogging. Links to this post. Occasional mu...

This is a sketchy photo of the painting taken with my cell phone- but you can get an idea of it. I guess the universe is confirming that I'm on a good path. I'll post photos of the building, 1580 Cook Street and the studio space soon. Links to this post. Friday, November 21, 2014. If you're interested, his name is Cameron Moffat. Links to this post.

Up on Haliburton Hill. Observances about nature and life from just outside Victoria BC . . . and from sundry other locations. Thursday, July 16, 2015. Two days at the top of the world. Brown Ridge on Saturna Island isn't really the top of the world, but it sure feels like it when you're looking out over the gulf islands and the ocean far below. We are lucky enough to have access to a sweet little cabin right on the top of the ridge. One afternoon we drove down to Winter Cove and walked the trail to Boat ...

Up on Haliburton Hill. Observances about nature and life from just outside Victoria BC . . . and from sundry other locations. Wednesday, February 25, 2015. Wading in the water. When we return to Victoria on Friday, I think the one thing I will really miss is the beach with the silky turquoise water. We have beaches at home of course but they're not like Mazatlan beaches. The water there is icy cold. Some people like to go out in a boat or fish or swim or read under a beach umbrella. Links to this post.

Up on Haliburton Hill. Observances about nature and life from just outside Victoria BC . . . and from sundry other locations. Friday, August 15, 2014. August in Victoria is a most beautiful month. The sun shines day after day and everyone is rushing around trying to pack as much summer as possible into the long days. We've been taking little trips around the area, visiting tourist attractions like Whippletree Junction south of Duncan. Eating al fresco and taking Geordie for swims in the lakes and rivers.

Monday, December 14, 2009. Savings in energy efficiency off-set LEED certification costs in the CUB. In the spring of 2006, WSU began the renovation of what students now know as the "new CUB." According to the WSU Board of Regents write-up for approcal of the schematic design for the CUB, the cost to renovate the CUB totaled $86 million. However, the CUB may soon be making that money back through its energy efficiency and its sustainable design. Energy systems, building techniques and products may have b...
