General Commission: GO. [Photo: U.S. - Mexican Border Fence at Las Playas de Tijuana]. Its been a year! A year ago I was finishing my second day at the Castillo. I remember laying in bed asking myself if I was really in Tijuana. And now in Ohio, I lay in bed asking myself if a year has already gone by! Okay, story time. I have a busy summer ahead of me:. Working for the Salvation Army, volunteering at the Domestic Violence Shelter, college bible study, 6 weddings, preparing for the Sojourn. China Opens W...

Beyond the Border: January 2009

General Commission: GO. [Photo: U.S. - Mexican Border Fence at Las Playas de Tijuana]. It has been a crazy week here in the small world of Indiana Wesleyan University. We are a third of the way through the semester, so group projects, presentations and the first round of tests are beginning. It snowed multiple feet of snow earlier in the week, and although our tiny city of Marion closed down, class went on, and we acquired more stories of walking miles to class in the cold for our future grandchildren.

And action is the only remedy to indifference, the most insidious danger of all.". This weekend was one of action and for the first time I can relate to the suffragists of the early 1900's and the African-Americans that protested with MLK! I was a part of the Invisible Children's The Rescue - a lobby for peace in Northern Uganda. Healthcare, education, sanitation, economic growth, etc!

General Commission: GO. [Photo: U.S. - Mexican Border Fence at Las Playas de Tijuana]. Welp, we just got back from our staff camping trip and that's crazy! The camping trip was pretty cool. I probably didn't appreciate it as much as our outdoorsy people, but it was nice and the area of Mexico we were in was beautiful! It was the kind of place where the only sound you heard was the wind blowing and birds flying.and the occasional flying beetle attacking in the dark. Ha! The stars were unbelievable!

I'm planning on doing a whole summer recap post soon, so this is just going to be a short update.(sorry Mom and Grandma ;) You'll hear all about it soon enough.). Lindsay and Breann prepping for our appreciation dinner/dance party that we host for Caravan Ministries. Dinner was great, but the dance party was the highlight of the night! This week...

General Commission: GO. [Photo: U.S. - Mexican Border Fence at Las Playas de Tijuana]. The past few days. Sunday was another super relaxing day, and thank goodness for it because Tuesday was crazy! After going to church in San Diego with Addie and meeting a few former Caravan staff, we came back to the Castillo and I got a little bit antsy. I think a lot of us were feeling a little cooped up, so Heidi, Andrew, Kim, and I went to the beach and hung out for a while. At Lat 32, the cafe that many of us love,.

General Commission: GO. [Photo: U.S. - Mexican Border Fence at Las Playas de Tijuana]. This week has been a reminder of the importance of being intentional. After almost 4 weeks of life here, I am beginning to get comfortable,. And Tijuana is not such a strange place to be living life. This is a blessing and a curse. At the end of the day though, I love it here and I am learning more than I really expected. Anyway, its the weekend and we have a few days of rest ahead of us! It should be really awesome!
