When John Betjeman’s Collected Poems came out in 1958 they made publishing history and have since sold over two and a quarter million copies. But Betjeman was not only a poet. Through his broadcasting and journalism he opened people’s eyes to the value of the buildings and landscape around them and became Britain’s grand champion of its heritage. 2006 was his Centenary, and we continue to celebrate his legacy to us.

John Betjeman was born on August 28th, 1906, near Highgate, London. His father was Ernest Betjemann, a cabinet maker, a trade which had been in the family for several generations. A Year In Cornwall. A Family of Four Leaves Marin Looking For a Simpler Life. October 9, 2003. A Present Giving Kind Of Day. Yesterday we walked over the sand dunes and across the golf course to St. Enodoc Church, a tiny Norman church nestled next to the ninth green. It’s a particularly happy spot for us as we were married there. My grandparents are also buried there, high up in the corner so they could get a view of the sea, and so the place has history for us as well. Then roller into roller curled.
