World War II History. Sunday, May 27, 2012. A Special B-17 and Her Crew In 1943. A mid-air collision on February 1, 1943, between a B-17 and a German fighter over the Tunis dock area, became the subject of one of the most famous photographs of World War II. An enemy fighter attacking a 97th Bomb Group formation went out of control, probably with a wounded pilot then continued its crashing descent into the rear of the fuselage of a Fortress named All American, piloted by Lt. Kendrick R. Bragg.

Ball Turret Gunner Photo Gallery. Death of the Ball Turret Gunner. From my mother's sleep I fell into the State,. And I hunched in its belly till my wet fur froze. Six miles from earth, loosed from the dream of life,. I woke to black flak and the nightmare fighters. When I died they washed me out of the turret with a hose. A Tribute to the Gunner. I donâ t think so. I think they cared deeply. Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress. To a line on a plain, to a stove in a tent? Did I nod in the flies of the schools?
