Have been enjoying a crazy, off-the-cuff trip up the west coast of Japan and we are now in Sapporo. Japanese practise has been extensive and food and sites enjoyable. Heading out to a mountain national park for a few days for some hiking. Had to buy an new SD card for my camera - have been desperate to take more photos. Hope you are okay Wiz - have been missing our chats.

Eleanora Martinez in the Land of the Rising Sun. Thursday, June 23, 2005. As you wait with baited breath . . . You shall soon discover I have very little of interest to reveal . . . I rocked up to meeting the Fulbrights (damn, if I really know how to spell that, but I'm spelling it how it looks, just like I was always told! Anyway, that was my exciting news - and it consisted of my boasting . . . Hmmm. What have I done today? The anime class was about. Grave of the Fireflies. And damn it is! Posted by El...

Eleanora Martinez in the Land of the Rising Sun. Monday, May 30, 2005. Right now I'm feeling like death half defrosted by a shoddy old microwave - I'm feeling sticky yet still cold in the core. I really need to wash my hair! I'm sick of dwelling this now . . . I should get onto study, but I wanted to document the experience as best I could before it clouded with time. Surprisingly, only one guy was bed-stricken this morning! Posted by Eleanora Martinez at 8:12 AM. Thursday, May 26, 2005. At lunch I met u...

Eleanora Martinez in the Land of the Rising Sun. Saturday, April 30, 2005. D'oh, a deer . . . Today (well, it was when I first wrote this) was 緑日 (midori (come on people, the drink? Third time lucky - I've lost this post twice already! I'd been told of the deer and Karl had proposed we 'walk' the mountain. In hindsight I think both items were grossly misrepresented to me. The deer are insane! Back down from the challenge? Not on your life! So, inadequately equipped with one small bottle of drink each we ...

Eleanora Martinez in the Land of the Rising Sun: September 2005

Eleanora Martinez in the Land of the Rising Sun. Saturday, September 24, 2005. For a country that is only an hour away on the plane it sure took us forever to get here the other day! About 8 hours all told! Adelaide aeroport maybe kind of rural and undeveloped by international standards but thank god it's only 15 or less minutes from the city! I find that in comparison to the Japanese Koreans care little for personal space - I've been bumped into a ridiculous number of times! Korean does seem a very intr...

Eleanora Martinez in the Land of the Rising Sun. Saturday, December 31, 2005. Originally uploaded by Yukata Me. Before Japan began using the Gregorian calendar in the 1800s a lunar calendar, like that of China, was used and the New Year was in fact celebrated around the beginning of Spring. It has felt a little like Spring of late here but I am sure we will have a reappearance of snow again in February, as is usual! I will be sure to take lots of photos!
