MAd ScIEntIsT gONe tRIaThLEtE. San Antonio Rides and Runs. Wednesday, June 11, 2014. What cost me a Kona Slot. It’s so much easier to blog about a great result rather than a crappy one, but it’s the crappy ones that we can learn from the most. Man it bites though…. I felt ready. I got in my mileage and dialed in my nutrition (after my flail at. I’ve done this before… it’s been 6 years, but “it’s just like riding a bike” right? Famous last words…. I was feeling GREAT! It felt HOT outside! When I got to th...

Tuesday, April 28, 2015. Three days on the Big Island, 100 miles of riding, 27 miles running and a mile or two of swimming. Not too shabby for a quick little jaunt over to another island. The sunsets, waking up to waves crashing on the shore right outside your window, the wide open spaces and HUGE, clean bike lanes, the vog (ugh! The wind (wait, there was no wind! I'll let the pictures do most of the talking, nobody needs the nitty gritty of the whole weekend! I'll keep that to myself. This swim was amaz...

Friday, March 27, 2015. Bike races are hard. I think every time I do a bike race that's the first thing that comes to mind and the first thing I want to write. This one was no different. When you think about riding 12 miles as hard as you can it doesn't seem. Like it's going to be that. Thanks Kalani and everyone out there snapping pics! Tuesday, March 10, 2015. On Sunday the goal was to climb Haleakala. Haleakala is a massive volcano that covers 75% of the island of Maui. The West Maui mountains...30 mi...

Monday, November 24, 2014. Cyclocross and the weekend. Saturday I decided it would be fun to try something new.cyclocross. Nothing fancy, just a group of about 20 people who like to ride bikes, getting together in a local park to set up their own course and race for 40 minutes. No money, no awards, just fun. The podium is 20 (or however many people show up) deep and there is beer at the 1 and only aid station. The course, thanks to Strava. Sunday was a water filled day. This is the map of the epic sw...

Tales Of An Ironman Athlete Training And Racing In Paradise. Monday, July 13, 2015. Eating Ice Cream At The Edge. One of the good things about having done this triathlon thing for a long time is that I've had an opportunity to personally test out different training methods and can see how they work (or don't work! For me. As they say, there are a lot of ways to skin a cat… Of course, I love my cat and have no interest in skinning him. ;). Then on Day 9 I screwed up my fueling (by not taking in enough) an...
