Last update: April 3 2008. Amersfoort, april 2008. Why am I building a canoe? I first learnt paddling as a teenager back in the Sixties. When I was a student, Geoff and I built two polyester kayaks. The incentive in those days was financial. A few years later, having hit far too many rocks, we borrowed the mould from our student canoe club and built another two 4 meter polyester kayaks in the living room of our first house. Kipawa Moulds

Last update: December 18 2008. Fixed the inner stems to the forms and started to shape them. Mounted the forms today. Beginning to get a feel of the boat shape. Prior to mounting the forms on the strongback, I steamed and bent some cedarstrips for making the inner stems. The moulds are cut out from 12mm plywood and after leaving for 2 weeks in the garage are showing signs of dampness. Cut out the moulds with a jigsaw in the garden in the rain - that is why the paper looks so crinkled!

This year I built a. Which got me caught with the bug of canoe building. Our fibreglass tandem is a little too long and I persuaded my husband that maybe we should exchange it for a home-built cedarstrip canoe. After making line drawings of the hulls from several of the 16 - 17 foot boats in Ted Moores book, I finally decided to buy plans for the Kipawa.
