KnitJenious: July 2010

http://knitjenious.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html

Jen wishes to knit ingeniously . Saturday, July 10, 2010. Well, after not posting for a looooong time, here I am. With a project to share. Not a knitting project, but rather a few stenciled onesies I made this weekend. Apologies for the craptastic photo, my digital camera is on the fritz so I had to use my phone. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and whip up some baby attire that I. I love how they turned out and can't wait to make more! Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Links, Friends and Blogs o...

KnitJenious: May 2008

http://knitjenious.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html

Jen wishes to knit ingeniously . Friday, May 30, 2008. Cruel Nature Provides Much Amusment! Yesterday I noticed our cat, Cydney, looking out the window of her little perch acting agitated. Upon investigation I discovered a squirrel was running around on the fire escape, strutting by the glass, clearly taunting her. It was very funny to watch. Thursday, May 29, 2008. The delay did give me enough time to knit an entire hat on the plane, a cute little cabled number from some Cascade 220. Highly recommended)...

Knitting with Fire: The Bunny Chauffeur

http://knittingwithfire.blogspot.com/2013/01/the-bunny-chauffeur.html

Saturday, January 26, 2013. Poppa arriving at his new foster home, Blue Skies Forever. I just chauffeured 2 rabbits about 80 miles today. This is pretty common in rescue; the town where animals end up in trouble is not always the town where a rescuer has space for them until they can be adopted into their forever home. The other thing that is sadly common is rabbits suffering because of human ignorance and neglect. It’s an age old story. Someone went to a pet store and bought a rabbit. Rabbits have devel...

Owen-Harmon Life: August 2009

http://owen-harmonwedding.blogspot.com/2009_08_01_archive.html

Monday, August 31, 2009. Life is like a bunch of flowers . Tonight was my first floral design class and it was lots of fun. We made a basic round centerpiece. I learned not to be the last person in line to get my flowers 'cause you end up with the stems that have lots of un-opened buds and the broken ones! However, I think mine still turned out just fine. And hey, when the buds open in 3 days it'll be like a whole new arrangement, right? Links to this post. Friday, August 28, 2009. Links to this post.

Knitting with Fire: July 2012

http://knittingwithfire.blogspot.com/2012_07_01_archive.html

Sunday, July 29, 2012. Deer Proofing the Garden. A few days ago as I weeded I removed the covers from our broccoli plants. We cover them while they're young and tender so that the rabbits don't eat them to the ground. The day after removing the covers, this was what I found:. We're big softies about animals, so we don't want any solutions that would harm either the rabbits or the deer. I started looking into garden fencing online, and it's EPENSIVE! We did several things. We spread Milorganite. Since Chr...

Knitting with Fire: How to Knit Argyle Socks in the Round

http://knittingwithfire.blogspot.com/2013/09/how-to-knit-argyle-socks-in-round.html

Friday, September 13, 2013. How to Knit Argyle Socks in the Round. Want the pattern for the socks pictured here? Click here to purchase*. Traditionally, the leg of an argyle sock is knit flat. Once the leg has been knit it is seamed up the back, and the rest of the sock is knit in the round. This is fine for the un-ambitious. Personally, I prefer to knit anything I can in one piece. I’ve played with a few different ways to knit argyle in the round over the years. That’s what I’m sharing here. To figure o...

Sunday, August 24, 2014. Whole Wheat Sourdough Bread. Inspired by Michael Pollen's book Cooked. And several Science Friday guests, I started experimenting with whole wheat sourdough bread about a year ago. I've played around with the recipe, and now that I have something that I like, and that gives me consistent results, I'm sharing it here. Get the starter out of the fridge at least 2 feedings before you plan to mix your dough. Pour off the layer of alcohol on top (this is normal) and then feed with:.

Knitting with Fire: August 2013

http://knittingwithfire.blogspot.com/2013_08_01_archive.html

Tuesday, August 06, 2013. The Year of the Snake. 2013 is the year of the snake. I celebrated back in January with my fiber pals at Raveloe. We dyed long thin sock blanks to look like snakes. Everyone had their choice of what to do next. I unravelled mine and knit socks as intended. I am one of the lucky few people who have a reaction to their bites. Not terrible, but my hands puffed up for a day, and that snake was set into the flower bed less gently and from a greater distance than the others. Buffalo G...

Knitting with Fire: June 2012

http://knittingwithfire.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 26, 2012. Here I am at the farmhouse working at the festival. I found a new "local" fiber I've never spun before. It has spun up fairly soft and looks like it will bloom into a bit of a halo. Any guesses as to what it is? Please guess in the comments. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Since Chris and Erica are always working on something, it seems like a good theme for Knitting with Fire would be to talk about current projects. We'll see where it goes. Podcasts Worth a Listen.

Saturday, February 16, 2013. A Good Day to Dye. I haven’t done any dyeing at home since before getting married. Once I was married, it seemed unfair to ask the other two members of the family not to eat any food in the kitchen all day because it would be contaminated by my dye. There is an extra stove in my basement, waiting to become a dye stove, but so far no one with the know-how has had time to install a 220 line and hook it up. Lately, I’ve gotten really antsy about waiting. I need to dye more often!
