The Smileys: 08.12
http://smileyfam.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html
8220;Mommy the Cake is Falling”. Eliza and I made a layer cake to celebrate Meredith’s 30th birthday in June. It was a hot day (like every day this summer) and we left the iced cake in the kitchen while we ate our meal. Eliza was up and about when she called out from the kitchen, “ Mommy, the cake is falling! Purdue Alumni Game and Team Scrimmage. Along with awesome photos, at my Purdue blog. I was able to sneak down courtside for the entire game and get some nice shots. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). We me...

The Smileys: 04.12
http://smileyfam.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
I had set the deadline to have it mostly finished (walls, ceiling, paint, floor, trim, etc.) by the time Matilda was born, so that we could immediately enjoy the extra space. In late July 2011, on the morning of the day we went to the hospital to have Lynne induced, I painted the last of the baseboards. Nothing like a deadline! I learned so much during the process and owe a lot of thanks to my dad for his help a few weekends to do some of the two-man tasks, like studs and ceiling drywall, and answering m...

The Smileys: Mother’s Day in NYC
http://smileyfam.blogspot.com/2011/06/mothers-day-in-nyc.html
Mother’s Day in NYC. For Mother’s Day this year, Kirk surprised me with a trip to New York for three days. He was going to be out there for work and I was lucky enough to tag along. I spent the days by myself (a mother’s dream! And at night we had three date nights in a row! Kirk and I had some fantastic food in the evenings, including the original Shake Shack. Indian), Kin Shop. Thai, which Kirk raved about. When it opened last Fall), and Le Parisien. The show was sold out, but thanks to a generous loca...

The Smileys: Paris – Day 9
http://smileyfam.blogspot.com/2010/11/paris-day-9.html
Paris – Day 9. It makes us a little sad to write about our last full day in Paris. We woke up surprised to hear the sound of piano coming through our open window. Someone below us was playing amazingly well, and it was a wonderful way to start the day. We had saved a visit to the Louvre for our last day since it was our backup plan if it had rained a lot any other day. On our way to the Louvre we stopped by Le Duree for some breakfast pastries and macarons. Earlier we wrote about. We also enjoyed seeing ...

The Smileys: Birmingham or Bust (or Baby?)
http://smileyfam.blogspot.com/2009/03/birmingham-or-bust-or-baby.html
Birmingham or Bust (or Baby? Unfortunately, Federer bailed (because he was scared? The Davis Cup tournament is a fun experience because, as opposed to a normal tennis event with mild clapping and no real rooting interest, the crowd can get behind their countrymen, make lots of noise, and celebrate in a way uncommon to the sport. The nationalistic pride is really fun, and it was even great to see the large Swiss contingent at the arena who were great sports and had some well-coordinated cheers. Little loc...

The Smileys: New York, New York
http://smileyfam.blogspot.com/2010/05/new-york-new-york.html
New York, New York. In April, Kirk and I spent the weekend in New York. It was so fun to get out of town for a short vacation. We left Eliza at home with her grandparents, and even though it was my first time away from her overnight, it wasn’t as bad as we expected. Not bad for a photo from the plane! And see for yourself). Fantastic. After dinner we met friends at the Village Underground. On Saturday we decided to walk around and found a great little neighborhood “garage sale” (hard to call ...Kirk had ...

The Smileys: So GQ
http://smileyfam.blogspot.com/2012/02/so-gq.html
The real highlight of Super Bowl week in Indianapolis was our opportunity to attend the GQ party. Every year, GQ throws a large invite-only Super Bowl party in the host city. Did I know this two months ago? No, but thanks to an amazingly fortuitous work connection a couple weeks prior, Lynne and I found ourselves on the guest list. So what celebrities did we meet and see? When we first arrived, Hines Ward. I gave him a quick “Boiler Up” and handshake but really had nothing more to say. I&...Patron had se...

The Rest of the Florida Trip. Keeping up our trend of being horribly behind on blog posts, hopefully we’ll churn a bunch out this weekend. We already shared tons of pictures and stories. From Eliza’s first visit to Disney World in February, but there were other fun things that happened during our two-week trip to Florida, too! The girls made a mess of all the toys, and Emerson prepared Eliza for Disney World by showing her all the princess outfits she had. We can’t believe how big Hayden is now! Before w...

The Smileys: The best Thai in New York?
http://smileyfam.blogspot.com/2010/11/best-thai-in-new-york.html
The best Thai in New York? With my new role at work I’ll be making more frequent trips to New York to collaborate with my colleagues out there. Rough life – I know! My most recent time in the city a couple weeks ago was filled with lots of productive meetings, fun with coworkers, and, of course, fantastic food. The culinary highlight of the trip was a visit to Kin Shop. And the general public. Was seated two tables away from us! Grilled “Phuket style” river prawns – cooked perfectly wit...Red curry roast...

The Smileys: Tennis Weekend in Cincinnati
http://smileyfam.blogspot.com/2012/09/tennis-weekend-in-cincinnati.html
Tennis Weekend in Cincinnati. However, we had so much fun that we didn’t talk about our blog plans nearly enough. On the grandstand court we found front row seats right behind the baseline. I was quite excited. My first tennis tournament and I was going to be sitting within arms reach of the players, with an amazing view. The slate featured some great matches:. This is how great our seats were! This is how bad our center court seats were (actually, they were worse). Erik checking out the ESPN set. Golfer...
