Reviewing my observations from my walk, I would have to say that the train station itself is the genesis of the landscape. Along Cresson Street, the backs of buildings, the backs of billboards, the backs of hillsides predominate. And tagged East Falls.

Asked to write about an awe-inspiring landscape, I thought it would be too easy to write about an amazing place I’ve been or have seen in art or movies. Instead, I wanted to write of an awe-inspiring landscape here in Philadelphia, PA. Hmmm…where could that be? Without a doubt, for me, it is the stone arch railroad bridge along Kelly Drive. Specifically, the view from the pathway looking westward.

Like What You See? Leave Tom’s house and climb zig-zag path to brow of hill on west side of Barrow-downs (ca. 9 am). On ponies go up steep slopes and down long limbs. No trees or water. Turn more east than they intend and enter the Barrow-downs, a place of great dread: inhabited by evil Barrow-wights from Angmar (R. Foster). I haven’t added in any of my miles from Fit Club. Shame on me. It’s easily 20, probably more like 30, but I will use the 20 to be on the safe side. Finally made it past the ferry.
