Little Jewel Quilts: January 2015
http://littlejewelquilts.blogspot.com/2015_01_01_archive.html
Joyfully sharing my quilting journey and other bits and pieces that make up daily life. Thursday, January 15, 2015. I don't know if any of you remember me working on these blocks because it hasn't been touched since Jan 7/2014. I love. These blocks and I was making them while participating in Little Bunny Quilts Starburst QAL. I chose to make four of each of the nine blocks that were released and once I got them completed the project got shelved for one reason or another. Links to this post. With a Frixi...
Little Jewel Quilts: December 2014
http://littlejewelquilts.blogspot.com/2014_12_01_archive.html
Joyfully sharing my quilting journey and other bits and pieces that make up daily life. Wednesday, December 31, 2014. I have been reading many blog posts this morning recapping the year's quilting accomplishments and I kept thinking to myself that I wouldn't make a post because I didn't think I had made or finished very many quilts this year. Just for interest sake, I thought I would check and see how many I actually did finish and I really am feeling quite surprised. Happy New Year to all! Pop on over a...
Little Jewel Quilts: Floral Seven Sisters
http://littlejewelquilts.blogspot.com/2015/01/floral-seven-sisters.html
Joyfully sharing my quilting journey and other bits and pieces that make up daily life. Sunday, January 4, 2015. I showed this block last week - nice to have a reminder of what the goal is! Today I am hiding out in the family room and prepping more diamonds for hand piecing. What am I hiding out from you ask? I am content to stay inside and do some Slow Sunday Stitching. Today I now have all of the stars pieced for four more blocks plus the one completed block that I showed last week. Look at you go!
Little Jewel Quilts: November 2014
http://littlejewelquilts.blogspot.com/2014_11_01_archive.html
Joyfully sharing my quilting journey and other bits and pieces that make up daily life. Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Tiny Tuesday.on a Wednesday Dear Jane C-11. I jumped ahead a bit again and chose a block that was applique only. I do need to go back and fill in the blanks and make the skipped blocks. I should have time today to get some of them prepped and ready for piecing. Links to this post. Sunday, November 23, 2014. I still need to remove quilting marks. Links to this post. Shortly after I got my ...

Quilting As Desired: April 2012
http://quiltingasdesired.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Monday, April 23, 2012. Batik Beauty on the Frame. A quick post to show what I've been busy with this week. I thought I'd be done quilting this by now and working on the binding. Unfortunately, I've been unquilting, as well as quilting. It's different quilting for a show. I'm being extra careful but still noticing imperfections, then wondering if anyone else will see them. It's a bit of pressure but I'm also very happy to be finishing something of my own. Then I have another. Links to this post. Sunday, ...
Louisa Quilts: Spring Cleaning Challenge
http://louquilts.blogspot.com/2015/05/spring-cleaning-challenge.html
Saturday, May 30, 2015. So what’s a quilter to do? The UFO list runneth over, several group challenge deadlines are approaching quickly, a stack of tops for donation quilts cry out for batting/backing/quilting/binding. And then Electric Quilt posts their Spring Cleaning Challenge. I was strong and resisted for a couple of weeks. Then decided that it certainly couldn’t hurt to simply download the files and LOOK at the projects. And that of course led to my most recent finish. Update on June 1. I have been...
Louisa Quilts: Half Square Triangles with a Triangle Ruler
http://louquilts.blogspot.com/p/half-square-triangles-with-triangle.html
Half Square Triangles with a Triangle Ruler. Rulers designed for Half Square Triangles are a great help in creating these units. Shown here is Onmigrid #96 ruler in the 8 inch size. It also comes in a 6" size. Another ruler that works the same way is the Easy Angle Ruler. Be sure to study the markings on whichever ruler you use so you understand what they mean. Two cuts have been made. Ruler is lined up for the third cut. Continue across the strips. Stitch the seam. You need an accurate 1/4" seam all...
Louisa Quilts: Little quilts
http://louquilts.blogspot.com/2015/07/little-quilts.html
Monday, July 6, 2015. The stack of blocks made as "leaders and enders" never seems to go down! It is always fun to try to use some of them up, though. I took some 9-patch blocks and some spool blocks and made them into two doll-sized quilts. Three-inch 9-patch blocks with half-square triangles and plain blocks. Three-inch spool blocks with borders. These went together quickly - it is easy when the blocks are already made! Sweet little quilts. Creative settings, too! July 6, 2015 at 9:28 AM.
Louisa Quilts: June 2015
http://louquilts.blogspot.com/2015_06_01_archive.html
Monday, June 15, 2015. I just spent an afternoon making a pair of potholders. They are good potholders. Well-made, sturdy, functional. I took my time with them. I carefully chose favourite fabrics from my scraps and put a double layer of cotton batting inside them. I used a stitch-and-flip method that let me construct both sides at the same time. I bound them neatly. They will be given as a gift to a young couple who are getting married this summer. Links to this post. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). I have ...
Louisa Quilts: Make a simple eyeglass case
http://louquilts.blogspot.com/p/make-simple-eyeglass-case.html
Make a simple eyeglass case. Decide how big your case needs to be. I started with 8 ½” squares to make a case for my large sunglasses. I used 6 ½” squares to make a case for my smaller reading glasses. You need three pieces of fabric: lining, batting, and outer layers. I chose to decorate the outer layer with a pieced strip. Place the outer/batting layer right sides together with the lining layer and stitch along the top. Press the seam to one side. This is the smaller case. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).
Louisa Quilts: Random Rails -- finished!
http://louquilts.blogspot.com/2015/07/random-rails-finished.html
Monday, July 13, 2015. Random Rails - finished! Nearly two years ago I made a quilt top that has been just sitting there, patiently waiting, ever since. I blogged about it here. Recently I needed a baby quilt. I pulled out that Random Rails top and decided the colours were perfect, but the top wasn't quite big enough. I added a couple of borders - more random strips for the inner border and blue for the outer one. A Bubbles pattern was perfect for the quilting and orange binding finished it off.
Louisa Quilts: Rail Fence quilt
http://louquilts.blogspot.com/2015/07/rail-fence-quilt.html
Sunday, July 26, 2015. Recently I pulled out my collection of fabrics from Africa. I had some yardage pieces, plus the scraps that I blogged about here. Was that really three years ago? A few of the bits have found their way into small projects such as the International Birds in this post. But there was still a good selection and it felt like the time had come to actually USE some of these precious pieces. Quilting was done with more-or-less straight, pretty close to parallel lines, about 1” (give ...

Louisa Quilts: Helga's Reversible Basket
http://louquilts.blogspot.com/p/helgas-reversible-bag-choose-two-pieces_17.html
Choose two pieces of fabric approximately twice as long as they are wide. My pink and blue sample was made from pieces about 8.5” by 17”. Decide if you need to add stiffening to your bag. Since my fabrics are fairly light weight I added a layer of batting. You might add interfacing or fusible fleece to one or both pieces, or if your fabrics are heavier you might choose not to add anything. Add whatever embellishments you like. Turn one of the two pieces right side out. Stitch around, leaving a few inches...

Little Jewel Quilts
Joyfully sharing my quilting journey and other bits and pieces that make up daily life. Saturday, February 17, 2018. I made these blocks for the Squared Away Sampler. Quilt as part of the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. The name of this pattern is Wishing Ring and I quite like it. I made my blocks with two different fabrics in each plus a neutral. The focus fabrics are all purples even though the second block is so dark that it looks almost black. Pop on over to get a big dose of scrappy inspiration! This was t...
