http://tomhull.com/ocston/nm/notes/eoyjazz-14.php
Notes on Everyday Life. No More Mr Nice Blog. The Best Jazz Albums of 2014. This file is frozen as of January 31, 2015. Additional finds up to December 31, 2015 can be found in colored type here. Year after year I present my year-end lists as just that: long, mind-numbing lists like I use every day to keep track of the current year (e.g., 2014. Etc) Other people's lists often have cover scans and brief write-ups, and it occurred to me that I have all that. Why not just table it up? None of the five horn ...

The Stash Dauber: "See Rock City"
https://stashdauber.blogspot.com/2015/07/see-rock-city.html
Rants of an unreconstructed music geek. Sunday, July 26, 2015. Everyone I know that came of age in the '70s had a bohemian moment, but not everyone had it documented on film (hell, I don't even have many photographs). In retrospect, that decade seems as much like the '50s as the current decade seems like the '80s. (Which makes Jim Palmarini's Ginsbergian narration most apropos.) Take the 12-and-change minutes it'll require to watch this very evocative short film. Posted by Ken Shimamoto at 12:22 PM.

The Stash Dauber: Yells At Eels' "In Quiet Waters"
https://stashdauber.blogspot.com/2015/05/yells-at-eels-in-quiet-waters.html
Rants of an unreconstructed music geek. Wednesday, May 06, 2015. Yells At Eels' "In Quiet Waters". In recent years, the sons have stepped out of their father's orbit to do yeoman work with others: recording a trio album with pianist Curtis Clark, touring with guitarist Luis Lopez's Humanization 4tet, forging their own metallic jazz-rock sound with the electrifying trio Unconscious Collective. On his own, Stefan has played in bassist Ingebrigt Haker Flaten's Texas-Chicago supergroup, Young Mothers. Sonic'...

The Stash Dauber: Dove Hunter's "Black Cloud Erupt Us"

Rants of an unreconstructed music geek. Tuesday, April 07, 2015. Dove Hunter's "Black Cloud Erupt Us". Damn, has it really been six years since the debut Dove Hunter. Well, five and a half, at least. But now these vets of little-and-Big-D band wars are back with a sophomore CD, and it's a corker: imagine Physical Graffiti. If Led Zep had cut their teeth at the Argo Club and Fry Street Fair. Since recording The Southern Unknown. With Black Cloud Erupt Us,. Posted by Ken Shimamoto at 8:27 AM. Hentai improv...
