A Voice Box For All Things Medical. Obesity may reduce cognitive function. Not only increases the risk of heart disease, diabetes and cancer but might also inhibit brain function. Assessed the cognitive skills of obese people before and after weight loss surgery and found that patients scored higher on brain function tests after shedding some pounds. The participants underwent gastric band surgery. Twelve weeks after the procedure the patients had lost an average of 50 pounds each. Also used MRI imaging.
