Direct from Dakar: It's Easter. And I got married (ok, calm down, not really)
http://jamieinsenegal.blogspot.com/2009/04/its-easter-and-i-got-married-ok-calm.html
Wednesday, April 15, 2009. It's Easter. And I got married (ok, calm down, not really). Ok, look at me here, blog posts in quick succession, aren’t you all proud of me? Actually, I’m leaving for Togo tomorrow so it was either post now or post in a week and a half. And after promising to post more option I figured this was the better option. How was I supposed to dissect prior to eating? You do realize what this means? That you lose the 'who will get married first' competition. whew no longer me. I'm a Rot...

http://jamieinsenegal.blogspot.com/2009/07/la-pouponniere.html
Wednesday, July 1, 2009. Ok, so I’ve been failing on the blog-updates front. Again. But turns out that I got insanely busy for a couple of weeks. And it just so happens that lucky for you folks I woke up really early this morning and can’t get back to sleep, thus updating seemed like a good option. The boy in the last photo is Charles, our son. We arrived a Dakar the 22/7. Now we are at home, in Italy. August 11, 2009 at 2:55 AM. August 27, 2009 at 7:14 AM. Très joli bébé.petits bisous!

Direct from Dakar: March 2009

Saturday, March 14, 2009. I'm so dirty I'll have to wash my soap . . . And here was one of the beds I slept on: open air with chickens walking around, a hard plastic woven mat over uneven bamboo slats. Complete with sandflies and a giant spider that we found earlier in the evening! We then headed back to our nice comfy beds (see beginning of blog) but I was so tired that I actually slept quite well. Ya, it was pretty much paradise. And I swam in the water even though my parasitology friends are all s...
Direct from Dakar: The daily grind
http://jamieinsenegal.blogspot.com/2009/06/daily-grind.html
Friday, June 5, 2009. I figure since I’ve been so emphatic that I’m settling back into my daily routine here in Dakar for the rest of my stay, I should probably give you a better idea of what exactly that daily routine is (though I’ve already thoroughly covered my food-related activities). The Baobab Centre - my classes are actually in the yellow building that you can just barely see on the left. No more grinding on me about twilight! June 6, 2009 at 4:55 AM. June 7, 2009 at 5:48 PM.
Direct from Dakar: January 2009
http://jamieinsenegal.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
Friday, January 23, 2009. What I've seen so far . . . Some basic observations of Dakar I’ve had so far:. And a hairdresser’s. Markets are also popular here, and I’m looking forward to seeing the large market downtown tomorrow. And some observations about Senegalese culture:. But before I finish, some pictures! The street in front of my house. Note the sand (there's pavement to the left as well). I went to a batik workshop last weekend at a women's collective where they make artisan products (batik, fabri...

Friday, February 27, 2009. ENDA-Ecopole (and a cross-dressing fete). This week I’ve been a part of two different social events here, each from opposite ends of the emotional spectrum. Now as promised, the educational portion of my blog (I am here to be a cultural ambassador and pass on information after all . . .). To learn more about ENDA’s involvement in Senegal, check out http:/ www.enda.sn/english/equipes.htm. Monday, February 23, 2009. Below is a picture of (left to right) Cody, Ann, Ellen, and me.

Lovely Lucy
Monday, June 13, 2011. This past weekend, I spent Saturday at A-Kon 22 in Dallas, TX. It was my seventh straight A-Kon to attend and the 17th anime convention I've attended overall. I generally spend the entire weekend at a con but teaching and financial concerns limited me to just one day this year. At A-Kon this year. The acceptance of crossplay means that anime cons remain a generally safe space for transgender fans. I'm still deciding how to take the next step and figure out how to more fully com...
Lucie en Afrique | Series Deux in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Series Deux in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. A bit of context…. Food for thought…. June 1, 2011. A ‘little’ farewell to Africa. In blogging terms, I’ve probably committed the ultimate negligence – abandonment of blog. What is the punishment for that? Hmm, I’m not sure, but admittedly with the new ‘dimension’ of preparing to build a life with JP, Lucyinafrica has taken a backseat to our blog, jpandlucy. We thank God when we arrive safely at our destination, whether by car or train, or ferry or air...

Amsterdam Adventures
I moved to Amsterdam from the UK in March 2003 and sometimes I have stories to tell. I'd like to share some of my adventures with you. Thursday, November 01, 2007. Okay, it's taken me nearly two weeks to get round to writing about it, but I'm happy to be able to say that I have now completed my first marathon! It was a fantastic experience, and I enjoyed it so much that I'm even starting to think about which one I want run next. The picture was taken just after I finished. The lack of supporters along th...

Lucy in Benin
My Adventures in the Peace Corps. Thursday, June 26, 2008. My Peace Corps service starts in four days… wow. I graduated from college only ELEVEN days ago (even though it feels like many more) and in under a week I’ll be in. Talk about a change. And it is only in the past few days when I really absorbed the fact that next week I’ll be in. If you asked me today, I could probably rattle off plenty of facts about Benin but to be quite honest my secondary reaction to getting my invitation was googling Benin, ...
