Survival stories of a directionally-challenged, hiking hermit. Ravensbourne National Park, Queensland – Thank You for the Music. September 25, 2016. February 1, 2017. Rare adventures with my adult daughter, Tough Cookie, are always memorable, and the great finger debacle of 2016 was no exception. I’d planned to share our gory trip this week but photographs still need sorting and the final outcome for the finger is yet to be determined. We could be twins. The likeness is uncanny…. I’ve discussed my love o...

Gippsland: The Skink’s Domain | Wild South East
https://wildsoutheast.wordpress.com/2015/04/09/gippsland-the-skinks-domain
A nature blog of south-east Victoria, mostly Gippsland. Gippsland: The Skink’s Domain. April 9, 2015. I’ve been fascinated by reptiles since I was a child and whenever I get the chance I’m trying to ‘hunt’ them down to observe and photograph them in the field. In spring and summer any trip to the bush or in a well vegetated garden on a sunny day will yield a variety of skinks. A frenzy of activity is usually seen in spring and summer when many species emerge from their dormancy to mate. During th...Is al...

Soaking up the brief winter sun | Wild South East
https://wildsoutheast.wordpress.com/2015/08/02/soaking-up-the-brief-winter-sun
A nature blog of south-east Victoria, mostly Gippsland. Soaking up the brief winter sun. August 2, 2015. My family and I have recently returned from 6 weeks travelling to the Kimberley (that’s why I haven’t posted on here for a while) and it’s been hard for us to adjust to the cold and wet conditions from wearing shorts and t-shirts (if that) every day in the tropics. Yellow tailed black cockatoo. One thought on “ Soaking up the brief winter sun. August 3, 2015 at 11:15 am. Leave a Reply Cancel reply.

Rockpool ramblings- Bear Gully | Wild South East
https://wildsoutheast.wordpress.com/2015/04/20/rockpool-ramblings-bear-gully
A nature blog of south-east Victoria, mostly Gippsland. Rockpool ramblings- Bear Gully. April 20, 2015. The beach is generally not suitable for swimming as it is mostly made up of extensive areas of rocks. This turned out to be a very interesting area to search in the tidal pools and our kids were constantly on their hand and knees peering into these worlds with amazement. Our youngest daughter at a rock pool. Pair of White-faced Herons hunting. I did notice them taking fish and small crabs but they were...

July 2016 – bushboys world
https://bushboy.blog/2016/07
June had something new as well as old. July 5, 2016. The rain finally came in June. The big dam, which leaks, almost filled which is lovely to see even though it only lasts a few weeks before it’s a puddle again. The frogs certainly liked the water and there were a number of different types of frogs calling. The frogs were also on this little dam which is more of a wetland than a functioning dam. The animals drink from here as well as some birds. Dragonflies were flitting about on both dams. In the insul...

March 2016 – bushboys world
https://bushboy.blog/2016/03
Wanderings in early 2016. March 27, 2016. March 28, 2016. One thing that I find fascinating is finding other objects in inanimate stuff that I discover. Let’s start with some tree roots that were on the side of the road at Buccarumbi which was a “lets see what’s down this road” destination on a wandering drive around the Clarence Valley. I saw a duck…what about you? Can you see the elephant? The little one certainly kept an eye on me. The thing about living in an organic house is getting used to whoever ...
