Fluent in Fag: March 2007
http://fluentinfag.blogspot.com/2007_03_01_archive.html
Tuesday, March 27, 2007. What's up with gay folk and The Namesake? So I went to see the Namesake recently (it was excellent, btw), and noticed that about half the people in the theatre were gay. Or at least, gay-lookin. What's up with that? Why do we love this movie? Is it the whole guilt about parents thing or what? Enlighten me, internets! Posted by manoverbored at 2:25 AM. Fluent in Fag: February 2007

Sunday, February 04, 2007. Was on Talk of the Nation. Recently to talk about the word "faggot" in connection with the Isaiah Washington incident (more details follow). The show's producers? Before this episode of Talk of the Nation, I must say that I have never heard "the F word" used to refer to "faggot." I just don't think "faggot" is that kind of word. Dan Savage himself noted that it was odd. I'm a fan of the word "faggot" when used in a friendly manner, in case you hadn't guessed. Specifically, Wash...

Fluent in Fag: November 2006

Sunday, November 12, 2006. Seriousness and Play, Sex and Death. Immanuel Kant, Lectures on Ethics. Just as there have been philosophers who are playful with the topic of death, there have been philosophers who were deadly serious about the topic of sex. Kant is chief among them. But this entry isn't about that, at least not precisely. Instead, I'd like to call into question the strict separation of seriousness and playfulness, of sex and death, love and alienation. Practically, of course, most of us die ...

Fluent in Fag: October 2006
http://fluentinfag.blogspot.com/2006_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 27, 2006. So, like, how do you guys, you know, do it? There is a fetishization of difference that society engages in when it comes to queers. Stereotyping is just the tip of the iceberg. Underneath the faux-ironic, soul-numbing, pop-reactionary images of gay men being good at fashion and lesbians being good at sports lies the belief that Those People Are Just Different. Considering the importance of judicial restraint in this area, we must agree with appellants that, carefully described, ...

Friday, May 11, 2007. Love will keep us together. But the Uniting American Families Act won't hurt. It's a bill that was re-introduced on Tuesday. It has been introduced several times (previously also under the name Permanent Partners Immigration Act). Each time, the list of Congressional supporters grows. Seems like only a matter of time. UAFA would extend to same-sex couples the same immigration rights currently afforded only to opposite-sex couples. Posted by manoverbored at 12:54 PM. Michael Bronski'...

Fluent in Fag: January 2007
http://fluentinfag.blogspot.com/2007_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 22, 2007. He blogs, he cross-posts, he scores! So in my previous post on entrepreneurial city. I talked about softness and blurring boundaries, but I just realized, after a particularly bad fallout with a friend (although in his new world view, we were never friends to begin with - somewhat reminiscent of judges who, in engaging in a novel reading of a law, say that it was always this way), that I am mister compartmentalizing.
