My Mountain Garden Gleanings

My Mountain Garden Gleanings. Thursday, December 18, 2014. Well hello again (and finally). The end of a very busy year is winding down. So much has happened in a short twelve months. I have been away often and very busy when I return home. Here are some of the highlights of the year. Spreading cinnamon sugar on snowflakes. Cutting ham for pizza sandwiches. Wacky cake ready for the oven. Chocolate nest cookies - messy but tasty. Shirt from my sister. Becky asked if I would make jam as wedding favours for ...

My Mountain Garden Gleanings: July 2013

http://mountaingardengleanings.blogspot.com/2013_07_01_archive.html

My Mountain Garden Gleanings. Monday, July 29, 2013. Lulu is waiting here for me. Have fun my precious sweetie! We'll be together again someday. Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable. You have been spotted, ...

My Mountain Garden Gleanings: November 2013

My Mountain Garden Gleanings. Monday, November 11, 2013. I Killed A Pillow. It has been a very long week since we got home from Alberta. There were many loads of laundry to do as I was gone almost a month plus we brought all the bedding, etc. from the trailer. I usually do fall cleaning instead of spring cleaning so had that on my mind as well. We also bought several light fixtures, so Barry had those to put up too. We tried to rewash the sheets to get out the feathers but the sheets still looked bad and...

My Mountain Garden Gleanings: Canadian Geese

http://mountaingardengleanings.blogspot.com/2013/10/canadian-geese.html

My Mountain Garden Gleanings. Monday, October 14, 2013. Photos taken in June 2013. Lulu and I spent the week after my parents' 60th anniversary visiting in Saskatchewan. The following weekend, Lulu and I travelled to Regina with my parents to a reunion on my maternal grandmother's side and to meet relatives visiting from England. While we were there, we visited the Legislative grounds and saw the Canadian Geese. The geese seemed to have set up babysitters (gosling-sitters? There he is bringing up the rear.

What Do These Bees Know? | One Sunny Acre

https://journey11.wordpress.com/2010/10/27/what-do-these-bees-know

What Do These Bees Know? October 27, 2010 at 10:13 PM ( In the Garden. Well, we didn’t get our first frost the other night, but we will most certainly see one this Thursday night–if not a freeze. When I went outside to do my chores today, I couldn’t help but notice the mason bees were. What do these mason bees know that we don’t know? There were four fighting over this dahlia. (I did get to enjoy a few more, by the way! And four more on this one! Here’s a moth trying to get in on the action…. In addition...

How Much is Enough? | One Sunny Acre

https://journey11.wordpress.com/2010/05/27/how-much-is-enough

How Much is Enough? May 27, 2010 at 9:24 PM ( In the Garden. My bright-and-shining-farmer has made me a very happy woman this week. After asking around the plant, he has found me an endless supply of manure from various co-workers who raise cattle, sheep, horses, etc. He even made a contact with the livestock market where he can get the truck loaded by skid steer. (What? Do I hear angels singing in the background? I want it all! Oh, I’ll take as much as you will get me. How much is enough? That would be ...

Free is Good | One Sunny Acre

November 14, 2010 at 4:01 PM ( Projects and Home Improvements. A couple of projects to work on now that things are slowing down for winter. I sent my husband on a mission to find a used office desk that he could scrap-pass at work. His company has a scrap yard/warehouse where employees can get things for free that the company no longer has a use for. Tools, building supplies, scrap metal, old office chairs, who knows what all is in there (I wish they’d let me in so I could look for myself! This desk is g...

Jelly from Wild Grapes | One Sunny Acre

https://journey11.wordpress.com/2010/10/02/jelly-from-wild-grapes

Jelly from Wild Grapes. October 2, 2010 at 3:27 PM ( In the Kitchen. I couldn’t get my hands on any Concord grapes this year. But it was a good year for the wild grapes and I came across a nice cluster of vines attached to a fallen tree which made them very easy to reach! I’ve always wanted to try making jelly from wild grapes and this was the year to do it. I ended up with a peck basket full. They are small, but mighty! Here is a cluster beside a few store-bought seedless red grapes for size comparison.

Honey for my Honey | One Sunny Acre

https://journey11.wordpress.com/2010/06/09/honey-for-my-honey

Honey for my Honey. June 9, 2010 at 4:12 PM ( In the Garden. Monday was our 7th wedding anniversary. It was a beautiful, clear, perfect day to be outside. When my husband arrived home he presented me with a flat of bedding annuals that he had carefully picked out and some nice chocolates. I told him, if he wanted to throw on his bee suit and come with me, perhaps I could get him some honey for his present. I jumped headlong into beekeeping last fall, when I got word. The first thing we saw after taking o...

One Sunny Acre: January 2014

http://onesunnyacre.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html

Adventures in micro-farming and self-sufficiency. Saturday, January 11, 2014. Meat Bird Tractor Update. I had another member of BYC. Ask a few good questions about my tractor. So I figured I should add that information here as well. He wanted to know about coyotes, coons and the cost to build. Here is my reply:. Opossums, hawks and dogs are the only predators I've had to deal with at my location in the past 7 years I've lived and raised chickens here, so those are what I planned for. What do you think?
