Teaching little children how to read Japanese – MUSE Society

https://musesociety.org/2016/05/20/teaching-little-children-how-to-read-japanese/comment-page-1

Middot; Literacy education. Teaching little children how to read Japanese. May 20, 2016. August 31, 2016. Japanese orthography is complicated. That looks like this: ひらがな this reads Hiragana in. That looks like this: カタカナ (this reads Katakana in. That looks like this: 漢字 this reads Kanji in. The three kinds of scripts have different functions and roles, and they are usually used within the same sentence. And any Japanese person who went to school would, in general, do this with without thinking. I believe...

3 Reasons on why I didn’t give up on my kids’ mother tongue – MUSE Society

https://musesociety.org/2016/02/21/3-reasons-on-why-i-didnt-give-up-on-my-kids-mother-tongue/comment-page-1

3 Reasons on why I didn’t give up on my kids’ mother tongue. February 21, 2016. August 20, 2016. Today, in honour of UNESCO’s Mother Langauge Day (Feb.21st), I would like to present the 3 most fundamental reasons why I decided to stick with my mother tongue (i.e., Japanese) in raising my children. 1 Because I want to feel comfortable around my children. Sooner or later, my daughters will speak better English than I do. So why bother speaking in English with them? So sad if I can’t do that. Like any grand...

About – Growing Up Trilingual

https://growinguptrilingual.wordpress.com/about-2

We are a bi-cultural family living in a multi-lingual country. Our home and school environment is predominantly in Japanese and English. I consider Mandarin to be our third language and exposure is mainly through her nanny and ad-hoc babysitters. I’m also a mother working in academia so from time to time, I write about this additional hat that I put on. Bi-cultural family living in a Multi-lingual country. 国際家族として多言語で子育てます. Half-Price Bookstore | We Speak Japanese and English

https://wespeakjapaneseandenglish.wordpress.com/2015/08/15/half-price-bookstore

We Speak Japanese and English. One of my first stop’s in America was “Half Price Bookstore.” It is basically the same sort of store as Book Off in Japan. I love these used bookstores. I always look for books that are in pristine condition, like they have never actually been read. No boogers on the pages for us. I did not have a whole lot of time because my dad and son were waiting. I picked out books that were award winners and books I had heard good things about. August 15, 2015. Laquo; Cupcake Loco.

Inside Head | We Speak Japanese and English

https://wespeakjapaneseandenglish.wordpress.com/2015/08/13/inside-head

We Speak Japanese and English. I told my young relative that we wanted to see the movie “Inside Head.” He was like What? Of course, that is not the title in America. Of course. It’s “Inside Out” here. I wanted to see it because I see all the Pixar movies at the movie and I didn’t want to ruin my record. If I see it in Fukushima, it will mostly likely be only in Japanese (like the vast majority of animated movies.). So what did I think? August 13, 2015. Laquo; Target (part 2). Cupcake Loco ». Cupcake Loco | We Speak Japanese and English

https://wespeakjapaneseandenglish.wordpress.com/2015/08/14/cupcake-loco

We Speak Japanese and English. My niece had her twenty-sixth birthday during our visit. So we got cupcakes from a place called Cupcake Loco. I was wanting to see a REAL American bakery. Well, it was totally different than most Japanese bakeries. This place was very low-key, obviously a small business run by a mom. Her son, who was about twelve, was sitting there playing video games. There was not anything in the way of décor, very no frills. We chose all different kinds. August 14, 2015. You are commenti...

American ice cream | We Speak Japanese and English

https://wespeakjapaneseandenglish.wordpress.com/2015/08/16/american-ice-cream

We Speak Japanese and English. America has lots of different flavors of ice cream! And the size are bigger than in Japan, too. Even though we are in Texas, there is no Blue Bell ice cream being sold. That brand got pulled off the shelves this year for safety reasons. Hmmmm….which shall I try? But I am on a diet! Looking at the ice cream in America is so fun, but I try to avoid eating it. It’s hard to stay on a diet in America. Flavors of ice cream. No Blue Bell ice cream. August 16, 2015. I *love* ice-cr...

Thoughts on the adventure we call life. Month of happiness…! The last time I posted was back in February– I KNOW, I know- FEBRUARY. That was so long ago. Musings of a Mind

Thursday, March 26, 2009. Long time, no write. So, I realize that it's been a while since I have updated this blog. I've just been really busy with school and work and trying to have some sort of social life, although that part hasn't been going anywhere. Well, other than that, there's nothing really going on. I'll try to be a bit more regular in my updates. Sunday, December 21, 2008. Now, we're not quite sure exactly what they are, but after browsing Web MD I decided that night terrors fix my symptoms q...
