Everyone has a story. This is mine. What I Read: July-September 2016. October 3, 2016. With 27 books read in the last quarter of 2016, I’d say I’m definitely back on the reading bandwagon! Sidenote: The next edition of my newsletter “Notes from MP” goes out this Wednesday! You can subscribe here if you haven’t already. Once a month, on the first Wednesday, I send out a newsletter with an exclusive personal essay. It’s good stuff, if I do say so myself. I’d love it if you subscribed! July 11, 2016. This r...
I Should've Gotten a Library Card Sooner | musicalpoem
http://musicalpoem.me/2015/08/10/i-shouldve-gotten-a-library-card-sooner
Everyone has a story. This is mine. I Should’ve Gotten a Library Card Sooner. August 10, 2015. I have vivid memories of my mom taking my brother and me to the library each week when we were little kids. I was a fast and avid reader; I could never get enough trips to the library. I’d pore over the bookshelves where my favorite book series were shelved (. The Babysitters Club, Boxcar Children, Nancy Drew. It wasn’t until embarrassingly recently that I discovered I could check out ebooks from my local...
A Jumble of Thoughts | musicalpoem

Everyone has a story. This is mine. A Jumble of Thoughts. July 20, 2015. I tried to write some semblance of a coherent post today but failed. So, I wrote this instead. I’m itching to get out of DC. Not permanently, mind you (although I’m not opposed to that idea either…) But I’ve been in DC since I got back from Iceland at the end of February. I think this is the longest time I’ve been in DC for more than a year. Last year, I was out of town once a month. This year? Not so much. Wanderlust, man. With one...

Everyone has a story. This is mine. 90 Day Shopping Ban, Redux. October 1, 2015. The eagle eyed among you will know that I decided to do another 90 day shopping ban from October to December. There are a multitude of reasons as to why I’m doing a shopping ban again (first one was June 1-August 23). But the quick and dirty of it is that in the six weeks since my last shopping ban, it’s become apparent to me that the only way I will hit my savings goals when I want to. Is if I go on a ban again. It sort of ...
Year of Saving: June | musicalpoem
http://musicalpoem.me/2015/07/02/year-saving-june
Everyone has a story. This is mine. Year of Saving: June. July 2, 2015. Time for my monthly Year of Saving. Longtime readers know that in January, I set out to make 2015 my Year of Saving. And set three goals for myself: no buying anything unless it’s taking the place of something; buying lunch at work a maximum of once a week; and purchasing alcohol a maximum of once a week. My only rule was no more. Brunches and late night cab rides home were okay, but makeup? Nope, nope, and nope. But you know what?

Okay, so I'm the dragon. Big deal. You still get to be the hero. December 20th, 2015. And although I knew nothing of love, I knew that I had found it, and never wanted to lose it. The Blackhouse by Peter May blew me away, and I am beginning to realise the flip side of this: I am easily disappointed every time I read another of his books and no matter how good, it just doesn’t measure up. I had problems with this book, and the main one was the love story. What was it that endured so long? July 16th, 2015.

Laquo; She’s Alive! Universe – 1, Sarah – 0. July 8, 2014. Smiling on the outside, throttling a dog-owner on the inside. I never doubt that the universe has a sense of humour. For the past month and a half or so, since my PCOS diagnosis, I’ve been really carefully monitoring my health. How is that fair? But of course I know all too well that you cannot take your health for granted, and so I persist. Which is why, Sunday evening found me roasting chickpeas for an hour to take with me as a high-protein sna...
Daunt Books Festival: Day 2 [part 2] – of Books
http://ofbooks.org/2015/03/28/daunt-books-festival-day-2-part-2
A chronicle of literary addiction. Daunt Books Festival: Day 2 [part 2]. 28 March, 2015. 28 March, 2015. You may have noticed – from my inclusion of Instagram and Twitter – that there were musical interludes my day. Not only were the musicians (extremely) talented and entertaining, it was just what I needed to break from concentration and note-taking. I read my book(s) as the music played, it was like being in a cosy living room or (as is my dream) a personal library. Series. His most recent novel is.

Hi, I'm Clementine. I'm a Toronto and Montreal-based beauty lover and university student. I started this blog when I realized that instead of wishing for the makeup blog of my dreams, I could create it myself. My aim is to write thorough, well-researched posts and to never lose sight of my feminist perspective. In addition to makeup, I love catchy pop songs, flowers, and every cat in the world. Read more. Baby M Number 2: 36 weeks. June 29, 2015. 36 weeks. This time with T I was day-to-day, and this time I’m week to week. It’s such a different experience and I’m pretty excited to get to experience it (although, being active at 36 weeks is a whole different ball game – and add nesting into it – shew! I’m worn out most of the time). This time, I’m coming into the office daily (and fielding the: you’re still here? Questions), doing laundry, running errands… It’s so different. I bought some crates from Target...

Baby M Number 2: 38 weeks. July 13, 2015. 38 weeks – another new week to put under my belt! The past week did not come without it’s surprises though – but more to come. Top: Gap maternity; Skirt: Lularoe; Necklace: Premier Designs. A spaghetti squash, and about 19-20 inches in length and nearly 7 lbs. With the slew of appointments I ended up having, I gained 2 lbs, lost two lbs, gained a few more. Whatever – total weight gain as of today (according to the nurse) is 12 lbs. Thanks, GD. It’s been har...
Literary Life: July in Review – of Books

A chronicle of literary addiction. Literary Life: July in Review. 30 July, 2015. 30 July, 2015. I’ve had a lovely month. Books, birthday, wedding, I feel invigorated (even with a horrible cold). Unfortunately, I just haven’t wanted to blog this month and, for the most part, writing anything here has been a struggle. I’m hoping that August will see me interested once more, although I suspect it will take the temperature to drop and the nights to darken before I am. Orient by Christopher Bollen. I love str...
About Me – of Books
http://ofbooks.org/about
A chronicle of literary addiction. Hello and Welcome,. So you want to know a little more about me? Me (Alice) looking less like me that usual. I enjoy reading classics, modern classics and literary fiction, but I am known to also pick up genre fiction – lines often blur. Romance is a genre I am most likely to avoid. Richard Yates, Donna Tartt, Joan Didion, Jane Austen, Agatha Christie, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, Edward St Aubyn, J.K. Rowling, and Ford Madox Ford are (some of) my favourite authors. I have ...
The Asian Pear: March 2015
http://theasianpear.blogspot.com/2015_03_01_archive.html
The Asian Pear Family Tree. My Goals for 2016. Monday, March 30, 2015. Monthly Forecasting: April 2015. April DEFINITELY needs to be a slimmed down month for me. I'm giving myself $350 discretionary spending money but I'm removing $20 for charity purposes AND $20 for Boxing Day sales to be spent later in the year. So I will have $310 to spend this month plus any money rolled over from March. Here's what I anticipate on spending in April. Dentist - Estimated $170. Well, I HAD. Groceries - Estimated $70.

An experiment with sounds and poetry. And finally, finally – see the actual performance. June 12, 2008.
