Saturday, October 01, 2005. Well, I made it. Finished the Akron Marathon this morning in 4 hours, 7 minutes and 49 seconds (4:07:49). Here are my split times. Finished right in the middle for my age group (male 25-29) at 27th out of 54 and overall I was 355th out of 786. I'm happy with my performance and it was an amazing experience. Sunday, September 18, 2005. Week #14 - Day 3 (a half-marathon). Today was a nice little warm-up for the Marathon which is now less than 13 days away. I got out of bed at 6:20am and headed down to Cuyahoga Falls for the Buckeye Half Marathon. They also had a 5K going on, but most people were there for the half-marathon, like myself. Tuesday, September 20, 2005. Week #15 - Day 1. I was still a bit sore from Sunday's half-marathon, so I took it easy and did a straight-up 10:00 mile pace, so I finished my 3 miles in a half hour. At the park it would have been a breeze, but on the treadmill I kept wanting to give up. Thank goodness for TVs at the rec center (and Cleveland Indians games! The weather was very spring-like today, so I ventured outdoors (like many other people) and went out to the park. I started off fast (first mile was in 7:04) and slowed over time to about an 8:00/mi pace. It felt nice to run outdoors, and seemed a lot more natural than the ol' treadmill. Kept it pretty slow (around 8:30/mi) for the first four before picking it up for the last mile. Afterwards my lower left ankle was feeling pretty tender.
